Hidden Gems: Meet Fabiana Jorge of Leverage Jiu Jitsu Colorado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabiana Jorge.

Hi Fabiana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My partner, Rob, and I met in 2012 when I started training at a jiu jitsu gym in Boulder–he had already been training there a year before me. Over the years we became close friends in training, which eventually blossomed into a partnership the past five years. We both always knew we would open a school at some point and by the middle of 2021 we began the process of planning. Everything got put on hold when we each lost our homes in the Marshall Fire on December 30th, 2021. With that, we both needed time to heal and recover. In January of 2023, we were finally able to make that happen and opened Leverage Jiu Jitsu Colorado.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been still recovering emotionally from the Marshall Fire. It has hit me especially hard because I lost two animals that meant the world to me. Finding the balance between healing and being of service to others has been both tricky and beneficial. Safe to say I am learning how to be more compassionate towards myself as I navigate my own boundaries which in turn allows me to show up better as a gym owner, instructor, and partner.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Leverage Jiu Jitsu Colorado?
We teach no gi jiu jitsu. We offer classes for adults and kids. I believe the biggest thing that sets us apart from other jiu jitsu schools is that I am a female co-owner in a male dominated sport. Having that female leadership has cultivated a community that ensures women are comfortable as soon as they step in the door. We are also one of the few schools in the area that only focus on no gi jiu jitsu, where others are gi focused. The gi is the uniform used in traditional Brazilian jiu jitsu. We have both been training for over ten years and with that combined experience, we are positive we are offering the most technical no gi jiu jitsu in the area.
