Hidden Gems: Meet Heather Hamilton and Katie Kollath of Barpath Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hamilton and Katie Kollath.

Hi Heather and Katie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
We met in a closet in Chicago in 2014. We started dating in 2015 and we recently got married on September 02, 2021. We are also business partners.

We started Barpath Fitness in 2016 as a blog to inform and educate without all the BS you find in the fitness industry. We wanted to help people get stronger, reduce pain, and look and feel better without shortcuts, gimmicks, or quick fixes. We had no start-up money, but we were two highly educated females with over a decade of experience as trainers. Even with our experience and credentials in strength and performance, we found the “serious” areas of the fitness industry to be dominated by males. We also found that we wanted to change the common narrative that fitness sells to people that “You’re Not Good Enough.” We wanted to focus on peoples’ strengths and help them discover the best versions of themselves.

A few years ago we moved from Chicago to Colorado where some of our clients followed us by continuing to train online. When the pandemic hit, we decided to go all-in with our remote coaching. Our approach is to meet people where they are. Equipment or no equipment. One day a week or seven. We customize everything to the individual.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building a brand online with limited funding in a saturated industry is tough. But we put our heads down and did the work and we believe in our product- which is high quality and high impact coaching. We built from the ground up and through a move across the country and a pandemic, we found a way to make our voice heard without compromising our values.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Barpath Fitness?
We help busy people get stronger, move better, and feel better through remote coaching. We customize programs to the individual and we utilize the latest technology to deliver workouts with an app. The app includes demo videos, instructions from us, metrics, and progress tracking, and it allows for quick feedback from us. We check in with clients frequently and once you upload a video from your workout, we deliver feedback within 24 hours.

But what makes us unique is our approach. Our clients have busy lives and we want them to get the most out of their time during a workout. We work to make each program as efficient as possible by implementing movements that not only improve strength but also mobility. We don’t advocate for endless cardio or restrictive diets, but instead, quality movement, efficient training methods, and slow habit changes over time to improve quality of life.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love how close we are to the mountains and the ability to get outside when we want to connect with nature. We do miss the long midwest fall we had in Chicago. We also love the number of women-owned businesses we’ve found in Denver. Any issue or need you have, we probably know a strong and capable woman who can help you out.
