Hidden Gems: Meet Heidi Harder of Harder Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Harder.

Hi Heidi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since taking an Interior Design course in High School, I have had a passion for the industry. I pursued other paths as I went to college, got my masters and eventually moved to Colorado. Along the way I had continued to exercise my design passion in small projects along the way, and then eventually designed a full kitchen renovation for my first home. From there, I knew that design was the path I wanted to pursue. I have been designing remodels for person and friends/family for almost a decade, and after realizing this was the true path for me to follow, I started Harder Designs in 2023. Within my first year, I had 5 projects under my belt and knew my decision was the right one for me. I have been in business for 2.5 years and am finding my passion for Interior Design grow with every project I complete.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been the most ‘smooth’ road since I have formalized the business of Harder Designs. While I have been fortunate to find projects with friends and family, the industry is challenging to break into! the challenges I find mostly are in building a pipeline of new business, so I have worked with various small business consultant, focused on grass root efforts in marketing to stay at a low budget. I have learned a lot about running my own business as far as proper marketing channels to build my pipeline, overcome the initial challenges I experienced as I started my journey.

We’ve been impressed with Harder Designs, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Harder Designs is an Interior Design studio focused on Kitchen and Bath design. I specialize in providing clients with spaces that incorporate their personalities, beautiful design and functionality that support that needs of the home. I am known for using natural materials in my designs, especially handmade wood furniture or design elements in my work. It is important for me to ensure my clients incorporate unique or special to them pieces in the design, often using a selected piece of art or photograph as inspiration for my designs.

I am proud of the work I have done as a self-educated, entrepreneur Interior Design, having secured the trust of my clients quickly and fully to bring their visions to life. I am building a portfolio of beautiful designs that are unique yet timeless. I have built a strong business process that supports my work, leading to clarity and strong project management for all of my clients, which I have developed based on my career in Operations as well. The combination of my designs and my process bring trust and joy to the remodeling process for my clients.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always influenced by my father’s business acumen and leadership style which I tried to emulate in the decisions I made along the way in my career path. From toddler-age on, I have always known what I wanted and been determined to get that goal – maybe except for the phase when I wanted to be a roller-skating waitress! I was, and am, passionate about achieving success, while being resilient in my path towards those success.

My interests when growing up were focused on many typical childhood interests, sports, fashion, friendships, and personal growth. I have always had an eye for design whether in Interiors or otherwise – one of my forms of expressions is in fashion, and has always been so – it allows me to express my personality!

I have always been determined, resilient and entrepreneurial in mindset.
