Hidden Gems: Meet Jordan Gough, PMHNP-BC of Conscious Psychiatry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Gough, PMHNP-BC.

Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my career as an ICU nurse at Denver Health, where I learned quickly how interconnected the body and mind truly are. Before that, I worked as a birth and postpartum doula, so I’ve always been drawn to supporting people during life’s most vulnerable transitions.

When the pandemic arrived, it highlighted just how much emotional strain patients, families, and healthcare workers were carrying. That experience clarified for me how essential accessible, compassionate mental health care would be moving forward. I had already been considering psychiatry, and that moment solidified the decision to pursue my training as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Today, my work is grounded in caring for the whole person—taking into account not just symptoms, but context, lived experience, and what truly supports long-term healing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Early in my training, I took a travel nursing role in a COVID ICU to help cover tuition, which meant long hours, time away from home, and a lot of emotional strain. Around that same time, I found out I was pregnant, which added both joy and a new layer of concern while working in such a high-risk environment.

That period was exhausting and uncertain, but it also showed me the importance of community and support. Leaning on colleagues and staying connected to my sense of purpose helped me through it. Those experiences continue to shape how I think about resilience and why I’m so committed to building mental healthcare that reminds people they don’t have to carry everything on their own.

As you know, we’re big fans of Conscious Psychiatry. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner and the founder of Conscious Psychiatry, a Denver-based practice focused on thoughtful, personalized mental health care. I specialize in medication management with a strong emphasis on women’s mental health, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, PMDD, perinatal mental health, and the emotional changes that can come with perimenopause and menopause.

What sets my practice apart is the way we slow down and look at the full picture. I spend time asking about things that are often overlooked—hormonal patterns, sleep, cognitive changes, life stressors, and how symptoms show up day to day. Many of my patients come in feeling confused or dismissed, and my role is to help them understand what’s really going on and why their symptoms make sense in context.

I work collaboratively with therapists and other providers, and I’m intentional about helping patients feel informed and supported rather than rushed or overwhelmed. Care plans are practical, evidence-based, and tailored to each person’s life—not just their diagnosis.

What I’m most proud of is the feedback I hear again and again: people leave appointments feeling heard, validated, and clearer about their next steps. My goal is for patients to walk away not just with a prescription, but with a sense of understanding, confidence, and support in their care.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about Denver:
I love how easy it is to get outside here. Even on busy days, the sunshine and mountain views make everything feel a little lighter. There’s also a really genuine sense of community—people care about wellness, balance, and building a good life, which makes Denver feel like home.

What I like least about Denver:
Denver has definitely grown a lot, and with that comes more traffic and a higher cost of living. It can feel busy at times, but it also means the city is evolving in interesting ways—and I think most people who live here feel that tradeoff is worth it.
