Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Fesperman.
Hi Jordyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Business Marketing. I always knew I wanted to do something myself. My husband and I moved from Austin Texas to Colorado in 2019. I started to become more active on social media and also purchased my professional camera to start learning how to use it as a hobby at the time. I love capturing moments that we can look back on. I was creating videos on social media about our adventures in my free time.
I’ve worked in social media marketing for most of my career. When we moved out to Berthoud in 2022, it was a smaller town, and I couldn’t find a job that aligned with my skill set. I saw this as an opportunity to leverage my expertise in social media marketing. Recognizing the significant impact social media has on consumer behavior and the potential it holds for businesses, I started JF Marketing Co.
I knew that providing marketing services to businesses as a freelancer could be a win-win! They could save money by hiring me instead of a full-time employee, and I would be able to help multiple business owners and entrepreneurs. I feel like social media is a creative outlet for me. I love what I do, and I’m really passionate about helping businesses to elevate their social media!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think trying to make it on your own is ever a smooth ride. Success, to me, feels more like it comes in waves. There are times when I’ve had a waitlist of clients, and other times when things slow down significantly.
One of my favorite lessons, learned after college in a class, is the concept of always ‘stirring the pot.’ The notion that being busy now guarantees future business is a misconception. It’s crucial to keep searching for new opportunities, even when you’re at full capacity. This was a lesson I learned from my first year in business.
We’ve been impressed with JF Marketing Co, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JF Marketing Co allows business owners to focus on their core operations while I handle social media management, photography, videography, and graphic design. I understand that staying ahead in the dynamic world of social media requires constant adaptation.
I am committed to staying updated with the latest trends and algorithms, to ensure that clients receive the most effective and up-to-date strategy. It’s my goal to allow you to reclaim valuable time and concentrate on what truly matters – running your business.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The day before everything officially shut down for COVID-19, I had surgery. At the time, I was in the middle of a career transition, with a new and exciting marketing position lined up to start a few weeks later after my recovery.
Initially, I was assured my new position was safe, as no one could have anticipated what was to come. But soon, my start date was pushed, and eventually, my offer was retracted. I was pretty devastated because I was so excited about this new opportunity, and now I was jobless in the middle of a global pandemic. Everyone was on a hiring freeze, and unemployment was at an all-time low. What was I going to do?
This is when I first started to dream of having my own marketing clients – although this isn’t something I acted on right away. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: even when things seem guaranteed, external factors can disrupt our plans. It emphasized the importance of the ability to adapt to unexpected challenges, leading me to explore new avenues and opportunities.
