Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Putfark.
Hi Katrina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have always believed in lifelong learning. As I started studying herbalism, I became intrigued with the idea of creating teas. Tea became a new focus, a business design was soon in the works. Researching products and learning the basics of a business in Colorado took some time. After about a year of this and a few test products, I was nervous & ready to have a debut in the markets.
A small farmers market I was lucky enough to join in on as they ended their season. Constantly learning and improving as well as growing more confident I have created a well-founded hobby business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has not been smooth haha. After many trials and errors, starting out I thought it will all come together, but it didn’t. This supplier had default packing products finding new suppliers what a hassle.
Finding biodegradable/compostable products is difficult on its own, sadly our world is not quite there yet. oh trying to learn the ins and outs of taxes, laws, and licenses. what style/image for the products. Our business name, it’s a current obstacle Lavished Lilac, what is that? Ugh. Well, come on over let me tell ya…
As you know, we’re big fans of Lavished Lilac. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Hand-curated artisan teas, We try to be as eco-friendly as possible! did you know most tea bags contain plastics, microplastics, and nano plastics, yuck? The majority of them can not be composted, or recycled, and are not biodegradable. we are quite different, our tea bags are PLA, which is classified as 100% bio-sourced plastic: it’s made of renewable resources such as corn or sugar cane known to be biodegradable. Our process however is not 100% sustainable yet, as it is our goal to one day be so.
Artisan teas, wellness in a cup. Take time for yourself, tea time is my time.
Commercial teas can seem bland and one-note, majority of commercial tea bags found in stores are often made up of finely grounded leaves and dust our teas are loose-leaf, complex, and full of flavor and depth. packaged in 100% compostable or biodegradable pouches along with PLA tea bags for those of us looking for a faster undertaking.
There are certainly many different varieties of teas out there; green teas, black teas, herbal teas, caffeinated, and caffeine-free. The flavors, oh the flavors… from peppermint to a Smokey campfire. we’d like to get people interested and enjoying tea so that there is more to explore than just the sweet iced tea we all love on hot summer days.
What do you think about luck?
I lost my mom a few years ago, and starting a business was a way for me to help channel my energy. The name Lavished Lilac, my mom’s favorite flower was the lilac. The lilac is considered a one-season wonder and blooms in early spring.
