Hidden Gems: Meet Kendra Strong-Tehrani of Strong Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Strong-Tehrani.

Kendra Strong-Tehrani

Hi Kendra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
As cliché as it may sound, my motivation for attending law school was driven by a genuine desire to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. I spent the majority of my career as a personal injury attorney representing Coloradans who had been injured in car accidents, medical malpractice cases, and slip-and-falls. However, the world of litigation is an intense and demanding one, characterized by high-stress levels, tight deadlines, infuriating interactions with insurance companies, and clients who, despite receiving compensation, still bore the physical and emotional scars of their accidents.

Over time, I began to feel the effects of burnout, to the extent that I contemplated leaving the legal profession altogether. When I became pregnant with my son, I knew it was time for a change. I not only wanted to engage in work that held deep personal significance but also wanted to create something that my family could take pride in. For me, that meant taking a leap of faith and launching my law practice where I was in control of the cases I took and the days I worked.

In transitioning to estate planning, I found that there was a distinct lack of firms that truly resonated with and catered to parents with young children. I don’t know about you, but when I hear the word “estate plan” I envision something grandiose, like a sprawling estate with 15 bedrooms and 20 bathrooms or teenagers inheriting millions of dollars from their wealthy grandparents. Quite frankly, most of the people I know don’t have estates like that. The reality is everyone should have some type of foundational planning in place, especially those with minor children. Estate plans are not just about your money and your net value. An Estate Plan is about your loved ones, everything you have worked hard for, and the legacy you want to create. That is why I call it Essential Planning. Because it isn’t just for the wealthy, it is for you, me…and just about everyone.

As a mother and a lawyer, I launched Strong Law to change the narrative and empower families through legal life planning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Becoming a business owner and entrepreneur comes with its own set of obstacles and stressors that are different from those when you are an employee. Aside from being an attorney, there are several more roles that I fill as the owner of a law firm, including marketing, administrative tasks, bookkeeping, etc. The stress I experience now is different than the stress I experienced as a litigation attorney and all the things I disliked about that job, I no longer have to deal with so in that sense.

For me, the biggest struggle was recognizing that launching a law firm would be a slow start. Early on I questioned whether I would be able to fill my calendar and whether people would be able to understand the value of my services. The first couple of events I hosted, no one came but I was consistent and wanted to build that recognition for my firm. Every day is a new opportunity to learn and grow – if something doesn’t work, you reflect and pivot as needed. I look at everything as a learning opportunity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Strong Law is a life and legacy estate planning law firm that was formed specifically to focus on the needs of young families and busy professionals. I know what it is like to be a busy parent and I know what it is like to worry (a lot). That’s why I have made the process simple.

During your planning session, we discuss your family dynamics, your goals, and your desires about life and death. We work together to create an essential estate plan that protects your children, safeguards your wealth, and sets the groundwork for your legacy. Our estate plans are comprehensive, meaning we don’t provide one-off documents because doing that would be a disservice to you and your family. Many estate planning attorneys take a “one-size-fits-all”, “one-and-done” approach with their clients but that is not how we do things. Clients that work with us choose their estate planning package based on what makes the most sense for their unique family situation and we develop a lifelong relationship to ensure their plan works when they need it to.

As a life and legacy firm, I empower my clients to look beyond the financial and legal decisions and ensure that their legacy, values, and hopes are passed down to those they love using documents like wills, trusts, guardianship nominations, and legacy interviews. I like to share with my clients that estate planning is for the people they love and care about, to keep them out of court and conflict.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Luck has not played a role in my life or business. Anytime I had a goal in my life, I committed to achieving it through a dedicated work ethic, education, and making every effort I could to make it happen.

When I was 19 and wanted to buy a new car, the dealership told me I didn’t make enough money. I got a second job and six months later, I purchased a brand-new car. I am the first in my family to go to law school. When I didn’t get the scores I wanted on the LSAT, I hired a tutor and took the test a second time. I strongly believe in setting goals and going after them.
