Hidden Gems: Meet Kevin Guttman of C2 Financial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Guttman.

Hi Kevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Orange County, CA near Disneyland, the beach and Knotts Berry Farm. My mom was a Registered Nurse and my dad was a Realtor and investor. So, from a young age I was learning about the ins and outs of real estate.

My career started in the non-profit world. I would travel around the country to meet with donors to raise money for projects in the developing world, such as: clean water, schools, medical clinics, small business loans, etc. It was very rewarding work and I met some amazing people! However, my wife and I have 5 children and I was travelling about 50% of the time and needed to be home more.

In 2003 we started flipping houses, as my wife came from a real estate background as well. In 2004, I started originating mortgages, a year later I started working by referral. In 2007 I was trained to offer reverse mortgages, but there were some things I wasn’t sure about with the program. In 2015, those things were changed, the program became safer and I got retrained and started offering them to my clients.

Today, 2/3 of my business is reverse mortgages and 1/3 are traditional mortgages. WIth traditional mortgages I help people build wealth by using leverage. With reverse mortgages, I help senior homeowners unlock and access their equity, giving them more certainty, security and peace in their golden years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yep, smooth sailing the whole way! Not.

2008-2010 was very challenging with the Great Recession. And Covid was tough because we couldn’t meet with anyone, and this is a relationship business. Alas zoom became the new way to connect with people and it continues to be a way to meet with clients especially people who are busy or out of town. And there have been various government shutdowns as well which have made lending challenging.

We’ve been impressed with C2 Financial, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a large mortgage broker based in San Diego, CA. The leadership has been together since the mid 90’s, but the name of the company has changed a couple of times. We are a family owned and operated business. WE are the largest reverse mortgage broker in the nation.

I have been with the company since 2021 and have been the top reverse mortgage producer during that time, out of 1200 plus loan officers.

The BBB has given me an A+ rating and I am also age certified through the BBB.

My clients are amazing and have given me more than 100 five star reviews online.

I have written 4 best selling books on Amazon.

I am one of only 220 Certified Reverse Mortgage Professionals in the country.

I worked for the Denver Broncos the year they won Super Bowl 50! I was a ticket taker for gate 6, and then after the first quarter got to go inside the stadium to usher.
