Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimball Cicciu.
Hi Kimball, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always encourage others to pursue a career that lights them up. We spend so much of our lives working—why not do something that feels meaningful?
My path began in health and fitness, where I quickly realized I had a passion for helping people feel their best. I started out teaching group exercise and yoga, and working as a personal trainer while earning my Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
I feel incredibly lucky to have met my husband, Greg, in acupuncture school. We instantly connected over our shared love of Chinese Medicine, fitness, and living a healthy lifestyle. After graduation, we moved from Florida to Golden, Colorado, where we built a life together and raised our two amazing daughters. We opened a small private practice and worked side by side for a while, but it didn’t take long to realize we were each meant to carve out our own paths. That’s when PranaTonic—my baby, my passion, my life’s work—really started to take shape.
Teaching has always been at the heart of what I do—whether it’s yoga, fitness, wellness workshops, or college-level healthcare courses. It’s what brings me the most joy. I’ve spent years fine-tuning my skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the body and good health. For a time, PranaTonic operated out of two separate locations: a yoga studio and a wellness clinic. But bringing it all under one roof was always the vision. Today, that dream is a reality—and creating this space continues to be one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. PranaTonic is a true community hub, an oasis where people could care for both body and spirit, surrounded by others who share a love of health, growth, and connection. And through it all, I’ve continued to teach at the college level—currently at Unitek School of Nursing and Red Rocks Community College.
I am proud to say that PranaTonic offers so many wonderful modalities to support a healthy lifestyle. Things like Acupuncture, cupping therapy, massage therapy, Thai Massage therapy, Ayurvedic medicine, Hypnosis, coaching, yoga, fitness, Tai Chi, workshops, Yoga Teacher Trainings, and community events. Having a network of inspiring instructors, skilled wellness providers, and loyal students has made it feel less like a job and more like a shared mission.
Like many small businesses, we faced serious challenges during the pandemic—but it also helped us grow in unexpected ways. It pushed us to get creative, deepen our commitment to the community, and lean into what really matters. We learned that flexibility, heart, and a strong sense of purpose can carry you through just about anything. PranaTonic came out stronger—more connected, more intentional, and more aligned with the vision that started it all.
Whether I’m in the treatment room, the studio, or the classroom, my goal is the same: to help people live well and feel empowered in their bodies and lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
**2. Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?**
I doubt owning a small business is ever without its struggles. Yes, there have been numerous challenges along the way. There were times when it didn’t seem like we’d be able to keep the doors open due to financial constraints. Let’s face it—while it’s incredibly rewarding to provide the kinds of services we do, it’s not the most lucrative path. Making ends meet has been a recurring challenge.
Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic was by far the most difficult struggle I’ve encountered. It was a time of deep uncertainty. As you can imagine, the service industry was hit especially hard during lockdowns and stay-at-home orders. Social distancing made it especially difficult to continue offering the hands-on, in-person services our clients had come to rely on.
Honestly, we were very fortunate. Members of our community came together and raised additional funds to help keep us afloat and we received a couple of government grants. We were also able to pivot quickly and begin offering virtual yoga classes, which allowed us to temporarily close one of our locations and significantly cut costs. That move ended up being a saving grace.
At just the right time, our current location in the heart of downtown Golden became available. When group gatherings became possible again and restrictions eased, we made the move—and it turned out to be exactly what we needed. The new space allowed us to consolidate from two locations into one, and it’s a truly beautiful space that brings all of our services under one roof. Sometimes, good things really do come from tough circumstances. In this case, it was a turning point that helped us grow stronger.
