Hidden Gems: Meet Kristen Koenig of Art of Kokoro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Koenig.

Hi Kristen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in a Christian family. At 19 years old, I was gifted an astrology reading. The astrologer whose name was Angel, told me that I had the gift of divination and that I was a healer. She told me that I had healing energy emanating from my hands. I was clueless and asked her for clarification. She told me that I was a water witcher; that I could work with Tarot. I asked her if I should be a nurse, and she laughed softly. Fast forward to around 2000-2004, I was in yoga teacher training, and my yogini told me I was a subtle body healer. Again, I was somewhat lost, and she recommended I look into Reiki. I was also going through a dark night of the soul, my marriage was falling apart, and I was the mother of two young children. I came across some angel cards and found them very beneficial. One of my friends asked me what kind of cards I was using, as they were right on. She then bought me my first Tarot deck. I was like a duck to water. After moving around the country a couple of times, I landed in Lakewood. I had my first Reiki attunement in 2012 and have received several attunements since then.
In 2019, I found the courage to quit the 9-5 gig. In 2020, after we got out of lockdown, I began offering my services publicly and have grown exponentially since. I took a course in 2021 called “Tuning Forks for Starseeds,” which sparked my interest in frequency healing. In 2022, I was blessed to be by my mother’s bedside for three weeks during her death and dying process. After her death, I had two people ask me to be with them at their time of death. I went to DeathSchool in 2023. During that healing process, I remembered my childhood of rescuing baby ducks. I grew up on a small lake in Oklahoma. The baby ducks would normally die, and I would have little funerals and bury them in the flower garden.
When I began offering my services in a more public way, I had many people seeking help with their animals, as I have a deep connection. I have helped many animals over the rainbow bridge, but I often feel they know the way, and I am helping their guardians. In 2024, I helped a young beloved family member transition with Reiki and as a psychopomp. This shook me to my core, and I questioned everything. I had an astrology reading and asked the astrologer to let me know what asteroids were prominent in my birth chart. I was hoping for the asteroid Huamea, as she is like the Empress in Tarot; full of abundance, growth, and love. The astrologer told me that I have Hecate exactly conjunct my natal sun. To the minute. Although this information was beneficial, it took me some time to process it. I began learning more about her, reciting her Orphic hymn each day, and am now a devotee of the goddess Hecate. I do not consider myself to belong to any religion, although I have great reverence for my Christian heritage and believe in Christ or Unity Consciousness. I continue my Shamanic studies and recently began studying Mayan Cosmology. Sorry, I don’t really like talking about myself, and everything is just pouring out.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growth is not always linear or smooth. It seems as if we spiral back and move forward. Having spiritual gifts requires continued growth, which is often painful. I have used the Tarot for shadow work since I got my first deck. I had a session with a Shaman a while back. She really encouraged me to work with my golden shadow, and that has been helpful. It can be hard to look at those things about ourselves that we wouldn’t share with another, but looking at those dark things, loving them, and working to integrate them into the Light is where it’s at!
I am being very vulnerable here, but self-doubt and imposter syndrome are something I have had to overcome. Oftentimes, I am in complete awe of what I am experiencing during Reiki/Energy Healing sessions. I am a big proponent of doing my own energy work; Reiki self-treat, using the forks on my own energy body and field. Getting outside and putting bare feet on the ground. Nature is healing. I also work with the Medicine Wheel, which has helped immensely.
I’ve been told that I am a healer’s healer. I don’t really know what that means. I find it somewhat difficult to talk about my gifts, services. I feel as if I continually fail marketing 101. I strive to be of service to others and do my very best to stay out of fear-based consciousness. I have been called a white witch by a couple of Christian family members. I had to dig deep, as I have such a strong connection to the angelic and dragon elements. When I discovered that Hecate was exactly conjunct my natal sun, welp, she is known as the Queen of Witches and also the Queen of Angels. I have struggled to honor my Christian heritage and love of Yeshua and do healing work. At this point, I know and trust that I am on the path of Light, and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I share this with a humble heart: I have helped many, and that experience calls me to continue offering this work. While all of my work is sacred, death work is especially holy. I trust that those whom I am meant to support will be guided to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Kokoro is a Japanese kanji that roughly translates intelligent heart, feeling mind. Angel, the astrologer I saw at 19, told me that I was a Geisha in another life. I was quite naive and didn’t understand what a Geisha is. I like to say, “Walk like a Geisha” to myself. That means I am walking in beauty and truth. I specialize in helping others weave or create a life in alignment with their soul’s purpose. I believe that healing is an art, and we are all able to heal ourselves. Sometimes we need a little guidance and end up getting in our own way. I believe you are your own guru. I am a guide and a facilitator. My work includes multi-dimensional blessings and clearings. I bring clarity, wisdom, and guidance through Tarot and Lenormand, and occasionally through oracle cards. I work with Light and Light Language as a source of healing, grace, and ease in times of change. As a frequency healer, I use tuning forks to help bring balance, harmony, and a renewed sense of lightness and well-being. My integrity is what sets me apart, ensuring that all I offer is rooted in honesty, compassion, love, and respect. When I first began offering my services, I worked out of a clinic that asked me to encourage clients to return for a series of 3 visits. This didn’t resonate with me. I invite people to return for sessions whenever their heart, mind, or spirit feels drawn. I desire that each person connect deeply with their own energy field, cultivate the practice of daily clearing, and feel empowered to return when guided. In death work, I serve only one client at a time, ensuring the utmost presence and care. I look to Hecate—the torchbearer, keeper of keys, and guide through life’s crossroads—as an archetype of support and wisdom. Guided by this calling, I bring love, comfort, grace, and ease through all transitions, including the profound passage of death.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is to remain heart-centered, guided by integrity and my team of highest Light. I honor the sacredness of what is shared with me, maintain balance and grounding, and support others in leaving sessions feeling empowered, whole, and confident in their own inner guidance.
