Hidden Gems: Meet Kristina Root of The Rooted Assistant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Root.

Hi Kristina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into wedding planning began years ago when I worked as a dedicated venue coordinator at a busy wedding venue. During that time, I had the privilege of helping plan and execute hundreds of weddings, and I fell in love with the energy and joy that comes with bringing such a special day to life.

When my family relocated, I stepped away from the industry to focus on raising my children as a stay-at-home mom. A couple of years ago, a close friend was getting married, and I offered to coordinate her wedding as a gift. Being back in that role reminded me just how much I truly enjoy this work—it reignited my passion.

That experience inspired me to officially launch my own business, The Rooted Assistant, with a focus on providing thoughtful, detail-oriented coordination and planning services at a mid-range price point. My goal has always been to offer couples professional, down-to-earth support that allows them to actually enjoy their wedding day while I handle the logistics.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it hasn’t been entirely smooth—but each challenge has helped shape my business into what it is today.

When I first got started, one of the biggest hurdles was reentering the industry after time away. Trends had changed, client expectations had evolved, and I had to familiarize myself with the new landscape while building a business from the ground up.

Another learning curve was developing and refining my internal processes—figuring out what tools and workflows worked best for me and for my clients took some trial and error. Pricing was also a challenge at first. I wanted to be both accessible and sustainable, and finding that sweet spot took some real-world experience.

But every misstep has taught me something valuable, and every success—no matter how small—gave me the confidence to keep going. Now, I have systems in place that truly serve both me and my clients, and I feel more connected than ever to the heart of why I do this work.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Rooted Assistant. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Rooted Assistant is a coordination and planning business built around the belief that events should feel meaningful, organized, and joy-filled—not stressful. While I specialize in weddings, my services extend beyond that to include other milestone events like bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, retirement parties, and private celebrations. If it matters to you, it matters to me.

Day-of coordination is where I truly shine—managing the timeline, vendors, and behind-the-scenes details so my clients can be fully present and enjoy their event. My goal is to offer calm in the chaos and confidence when it counts.

What really sets The Rooted Assistant apart is the added value I provide through my curated decor catalog. Clients who book my silver plus or above coordination services gain complimentary access to a stylish collection of event essentials—signage, table numbers, cake stands, ceremony accents, and more—designed to add charm and personality without adding cost or complication.

I’m known for being steady under pressure, detail-focused, and deeply invested in creating a seamless experience for my clients. My brand is rooted in trust, thoughtfulness, and a calm presence that helps set the tone for the entire event.

And here’s a fun bonus: I don’t charge extra for travel. Exploring Colorado is one of the perks of my work, and I’m always excited for the opportunity to serve clients in new and beautiful places.

Whether it’s a wedding, a milestone, or an intimate gathering, The Rooted Assistant is here to help you stay grounded while your day unfolds with ease and beauty.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Podcasts and vlogs have been some of the most valuable tools in helping me stay inspired, informed, and balanced—both in my business and personal life.

When it comes to wedding trends, I love tuning into podcasts like The Wedding Biz and She Creates Business. They offer incredible insight from seasoned pros in the industry, from designers to planners, and help me stay current with what’s resonating with couples right now.

For business-building, I’m a big fan of Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher and The Business of Wedding Planning podcast. They’ve both helped me sharpen my skills in marketing, pricing, and growing sustainably without burning out. I also find a lot of value in YouTube vlogs from other planners and creatives who share behind-the-scenes content—it’s encouraging to see how others navigate the same challenges.

And because I believe a balanced life makes me better at what I do, I also listen to podcasts like The Lazy Genius and Minimal-ish. They help me stay grounded and remind me to focus on what really matters—in business and at home.

These resources are like having a rotating panel of mentors, creatives, and cheerleaders in my ear, and they’ve truly shaped how I approach both my business and my daily life.
