Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hribek.
Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been interested in the human body and whole-person wellness. I remember being inspired by how well the nurses took care of my uncle in hospice when I was in high school and knew I wanted to help ease people’s suffering. As the years went by, my interest became more focused on the mind-body connection. This topic was close to home, as I endured a lot of physical pain and loss growing up.
I originally thought that I would go into physical therapy. I took all the prerequisite classes and put in more volunteer hours than required. I also had my own personal experience with physical therapy. I went countless times, for pain that seemed to migrate around my body for no reason at all. Yoga became a close friend that helped me address both the mental and physical aspects of pain when traditional medicine didn’t hit the mark.
For years, I tried to pinpoint why I had so much discomfort and tried many modalities to address it; chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, medication, and more. None of it addressed the root of my pain and the care was piecemeal. I received little support from the providers I saw and often fell off the regimen.
I’m so thankful I experienced this because it brought me to my work. It taught me how to deeply understand myself and my clients. I found that using the concept of duality was one of the best ways to work with pain. I learned to let myself relax and create ease as well as build strength and stability in my mind, body, and life. I learned when to push harder and when it was time to rest; when to have grace and when to have grit. This is exactly what I encourage my clients to do. I offer them a toolbox tailored to their unique needs so that they can pull from it whenever they want to break the pain cycle.
Healing sways on a pendulum according to each day. On some days, you may need more rest and supportive tools such as breathing techniques or self-massage. On other days, more action may be the right medicine.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having a business is a spiritual journey. It challenges you in so many ways but I know I have become a stronger person from the journey. Building a business has been a huge challenge for me as I wear many hats. I am the CEO, accountant, marketing manager, website developer, and content creator to name a few. Most important of all, I still need to carve out time to create transformative events and serve my client’s needs, which is my top priority.
The other hats can take away from what I want to focus on, and it can sometimes be draining. But for me, the entrepreneur life is all about finding balance and taking care of myself before my business so that I can set the best example for my clients. Putting myself first takes dedication. It takes grace to know when to take a break and grit to understand how to push through the toughest times.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Grace and Grit Wellness?
Yoga is for everybody and every body. The ultimate goal of my work is to support my clients in ways that help them feel peaceful and at ease as well as strong. powerful and confident. I work with them to create mind-body practices that fit their lifestyle, needs, and goals and encourage them to take their health and wellness into their own hands.
They have the power but I am always here for support. Every session can look completely different for the same client. We have a check-in so that I know what they are feeling that day and what they need the most to support their wellness journey. One week, a client may need to move vigorously to get rid of built-up energy from a work situation but the next week needs something gentle and therapeutic to ease their SI pain. Perhaps someone who comes to me desiring six-pack abs and toned arms, because they want to feel more confident, ends up clarifying that what they really need is breathwork and affirmations to help ease and rewire their nervous system in support of a life-changing situation they are experiencing.
This is the beauty of the work I do. It is adaptable, and whole-person focused.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I do not live in Denver and have only visited once, a long time ago. I really enjoyed my trip out of the city to enjoy the natural areas. I have a good friend named Rhye who lives there and I keep in close touch with them. That gives me warm feelings about Denver.
