We appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2005, we found the one place on earth where we want to spend the rest of our lives. We both worked full-time jobs and spent every weekend building Rancho Arturo.

Twelve years later, 2017, we opened our vacation rental to share this place with others!

Piñon Flats at Rancho Arturo is an Off-grid vacation rental set in the Wet Mountains near Westcliffe, CO.

We built the structure and the business from ground up.

Piñon Flats at Rancho Arturo is an escape from the noisy, busy life and a place to relax and rejuvenate.

We are proud that people come to visit Rancho Arturo and fall in love with the area as we have!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We found ourselves in the “wild west” learning how to construct buildings for shelter! We built our infrastructure from the ground up which included these tasks:

Hauling our own water,

Our Well Driller getting stuck in mud and delaying the project until the roads dried up,

Dynamiting for our well water pipeline,

Installing solar power with back up system,

Bringing in internet,

Becoming our own year-around Road Maintenance Department,

all while working full-time jobs.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rancho Arturo Vacation Rentals?
Piñon Flats at Rancho Arturo is an Off-grid vacation rental set in the Wet Mountains northeast of Westcliffe, CO less than 3 hours from Denver and less than 2 hours from Colorado Springs. We offer a retreat from the noise and stress in our Guests’ lives!

The Casita is a simple Southwestern style, facing McKinley Mountain at over 9,000’ where Golden Eagles nest. Deer and other wildlife pass by the casita.

Out the Casita door there is corn hole, horseshoe, two hammocks, multiple seating areas and access to hiking on our private property to enjoy the mountain views! Night-time star gazing is fantastic!

Culturally Modified Trees are located on our properties. Free, personal tours are available upon request; bring your hiking boots!

Indoors, there is a smart TV, video and book library, MP3 player and Starlink. A full kitchen enables our Guests to prepare meals; just bring your food and drinks.

We offer work from home (casita) discounts for extended stays less than 30 days. Healthcare workers receive a $10/night discount.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Our work ethic of never be afraid of failure, never too old to learn and never give up attitude. You have to work to make your dreams come true!
