Hidden Gems: Meet Les Schwartz of High Country Buildings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Les Schwartz.

Hi Les, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been in the construction industry since I’ve been 8 years old. High Country buildings was established 3 years ago. My partner is on the mission field and before he left we went into partnership. We thought it was the best with handling everything because we have worked together in the past and it’s working out really well. We started our own company because we knew exactly how we wanted to build our buildings and run things and so many times people have experiences with contractors and we like to give our people a great experience. Can we please everybody know, but we give it our best to make it a wonderful experience for everyone involved. We build them like they are our own buildings

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s never a smooth road when you start a business. I don’t believe because if it would be smooth we would not be growing. This past 6 months have been a very big challenge for us. The interest rates need to drop and that will bring in an influx of buildings. We have quoted close to 600 buildings in those 6 months but we are truly believing in our economy. But we are solid with the crews that we have. They are very good. Yes there are times when we have to replace some but that’s part of life

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Here at High Country buildings we like our close-knit community. If someone is hurting or needs help, we are here to help each other out. We specialize in building pole, barns, barndos, riding arenas, storage facilities and everything you can imagine in the pole barn world I would say what sets us apart is we have double the amount of material than most builders. We set our posts every 8 ft purlin’s every 2 ft trusses every 4 ft. Yes there are others out there that do that but a lot of the big name brands are half the amount of that material. I would say what I’m most proud of for our brand is our quality and craftsmanship and what I want people to know is that we give it our best. Do we make mistakes? Yes we do but we stand behind our product and when we leave we know we’ve given it our all to make our customers happy

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best thing about our city is it is big enough to have everything in it and lots of people and I love it. It’s right here in the mountains. The least thing I like about it. Our city is all the traffic 😂

Pricing:

  • Our pricing is based on your building. We don’t have a one price fits all. It’s really never the same because some buildings might be what we call a standard building and then the next one has a bunch of Dormers and valleys and windows and high class doors. Our labor price is very straightforward. We stay in the range of between $8 and $10 a square foot
