Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Rundall.
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story has been a long creative journey that ultimately led me to becoming a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years in the San Fransisco Bay area. As a child, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do but I loved being in nature, taking photographs and documenting the human experience. This was a natural progression into my undergraduate degree in darkroom photography at Humboldt State University. While in college I was fortunate to live in a place so magical, exploring the ocean and the giant redwoods forests was just a walk around the neighborhood.
After college, I moved to an equally beautiful place in Colorado, Steamboat Springs, where I met my husband of 20 years. We moved down to northwest Denver for him to finish his studies, we have been here since and have two beautiful and talented children. After a decade of exploring both photography and graphic design, I decided that I needed to move onto the next journey and went back to school to get my doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It turns out that practicing TCM is another way of diving into the human experience while examining nature, so I didn’t veer too far from my original path.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Going back to school to change careers wasn’t an easy decision, especially four years of intense study. Similar to studying a new language I began to think it was impossible for my brain to understand the world from this different lens. Then suddenly this new paradigm was my language and I couldn’t imagine looking at the world any other way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Moon River Clinic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Traditional Chinese medicine has its basis in naturalist philosophy, which views the body as a microcosm that is informed by macrocosmic influences. The thing that sets me apart from other healthcare providers is the amount of time spent listening to my patients explain the lived experience in their body. During treatment, I take time to educate them on how Chinese medicine understands the body and how to best support their own journey toward balance. Each treatment is based on the individual and their current state.
I treat both physical and mental/emotional issues. I work with women and men to balance the body and find new paths to health. I treat a lot of fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, menstrual and hormonal issues, and all kinds of pain. I treat people going through biomedical procedures like chemotherapy, helping to support the body and relieving side effects. TCM is an entire system of medicine, so we can treat a wide array of issues. I also love doing facial acupuncture and microneedling treatments.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that I volunteer for hospice and that I am a certified End of Life Doula. I was originally planning to take acupuncture into this space to support the dying and their families. I decided instead to continue volunteering and keep my business separate from this work. It felt like the right thing for me personally. I know some really wonderful practitioners that do amazing work in these areas that I can refer when people are in need.
