Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Sugg.
Luke, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
During my first semester of College, my baseball career was quickly in the rear view mirror. I was injured in a car accident that left my dreams of playing baseball and at the time my future on hold. After multiple injuries, surgeries and an extensive road of rehabilitation I regained the ability to attempt a comeback. Thinking I could resume College and try to play Baseball again – I was mistaken. Shortly after my car accident I was diagnosed with Leukemia in early 2007. I battled Leukemia for 4 years and with the amazing help from many doctors, healthcare professionals and with determination and will power I can proudly say that I have been cancer free since 2011.
Experiencing first hand how each medical professional I encountered was uniquely able to help me and show their passion for caring inspired me. It’s what I was meant to do – to help others heal and regain what they are passionate about.
I earned my Physical Therapist Assistant degree in 2012, where I was fortunate to complete a clinical rotation under the mentorship of two exceptional Physical Therapists who continue to influence my work today. One of them had trained through the Institute of Physical Art, and the way he approached the human body—thoughtfully, holistically, and with precision—completely reshaped how I understood movement and recovery.
That experience opened my eyes to what was possible beyond a traditional clinical setting and sparked a lifelong pursuit of deeper understanding of the human body. Since then, I’ve continued my education through multiple courses of study with the Institute of Physical Art and related movement-based disciplines.
Today, I apply that foundation through non-medical bodywork and movement education. My work is centered on helping people move with greater ease, restore function, and reconnect with their bodies—without operating within a medical or therapeutic model.
What drives me is witnessing the shift: the relief, the confidence, and the renewed sense of possibility people feel as they begin moving better and living more fully. Seeing clients return with more freedom in their movement, less limitation in daily life, and the ability to enjoy the activities and time with family that matter most to them is deeply fulfilling and continues to fuel my passion for this work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s was more bumpy than smooth. Starting out was very scary. But I trusted myself. I opened my business in 2020, right in the middle of peak COVID. I renovated my own garage into a studio with my dad and step father, and started with zero referrals—just word of mouth and a lot of trust-building. It wasn’t easy, but those early challenges shaped how I work today and made the business what it is now. I love helping people feel better!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vital At Last?
I specialize in hands-on bodywork that blends functional muscle work and joint-focused techniques to support better movement and overall quality of life.
I’m most proud of stepping out on my own to offer a cash-based bodywork option for people dealing with everyday discomfort and movement limitations. Working outside the insurance model allows me to spend more time with each person, listen closely, and tailor every session to their individual needs.
This approach creates a more focused, personalized experience—one that often stands out because of the attention, care, and intention behind the work.
What does success mean to you?
Success is honoring the body that carried me through survival.
A full schedule. Teaching clients how to care for themselves.
Attracting people who resonate with my story.
Helping everyone I work with each day.
Seeing a smile after a session because they feel better. That’s success to me.
