Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Hymanson.
Megan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our facility was born from the notion that everyone should have the freedom to enjoy the world of shooting sports. We found that many ranges were catering to one type of clientele and not everyone was welcome. As the world continues to change around us, we feel it is more important than ever to have a place where one can be welcomed to shoot, train, and learn in a safe environment.
We are David, Megan, and Mark – Three long-time friends who had trouble finding a place where we could all come together and feel like we belong. As an experienced shooter, a Marine Corps veteran, and a novice who happens to be female, we found that we all had very different experiences at the range. So what did we do? We decided to build one ourselves.
After lots of research and hard work, we have built a facility that offers training, a premium range, and a social club all-in-one experience. Everything within our walls was designed to create an atmosphere that would make even the most apprehensive feel comfortable from the range to retail, and The Barrel Room!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been no easy task. We did the research and learned the industry, but we faced many uphill battles in getting the doors open. Starting a business with a new concept in Colorado needed a lot of explanation, especially when it comes to firearms and alcohol.
We needed to convince the proper authorities that we had a sound plan, with backups to ensure safety and we needed to persuade the public that we were here to be a resource and haven for the community, not a facility that would create chaos. We have developed an amazing family among our staff, our members, and guests and we’ve proven that the negative noise surrounding our opening was just that, and we are a safe and fun establishment.
Now that the doors are open, we face challenges that any new business has, but we also have several pieces of legislation that are actively changing how we need to do business. While we don’t agree with all of the changes, we do have to ensure that our business stays compliant in the eyes of the law.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Gallery Range and Restaurant?
We are a gun range, training facility, pro shop, coffee bar, and restaurant and bar. While we are open to the public, we have created a fun and unique group with our membership base. We host monthly whiskey tastings, friendly competitions, and special member events that have brought people from throughout our community together.
We are proud of what we have built here, as it is a place where anyone should feel welcome entering our doors. Whether you just want to have a fun date night, or you are a competitive shooter, you will feel right at home and face no intimidation.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to leaders of the industry.
We wanted to immerse ourselves in the world of shooting sports so we went straight to the source when it came to looking for advice when developing this business. Not everyone may have the time to speak with you, but when you get that foot in the door, it’s beyond rewarding and helpful towards achieving your goals.
