Hidden Gems: Meet Megan Nix of Holistic WellCare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Nix.

Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve been an RN for about 10 years and have always enjoyed supporting people with their health. When I suddenly became very ill with 20 mystery symptoms (2 autoimmune diseases: rheumatoid arthritis and connective tissue disease), I followed the conventional medicine approach recommended by my doctors but didn’t feel any better. I started to question this approach and realized that it was not addressing whatever was causing my symptoms.

That’s when I learned about functional medicine and it’s root cause approach. I started to find the root causes of my symptoms through alternative labwork that digs deep to find answers. Finding and addressing the toxins and hidden infections in my body allowed my diseases to reverse. Now, I can live my life fully and continue to help others, but now in a much different way. This is how Holistic WellCare was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always thought about starting a business, but getting so sick and experiencing the reversal of disease was a powerful motivator. It was such an unexpected and profound experience that it’s almost as if I didn’t have a choice about starting my health coaching business.

People need to know that just because they are told “your labs look normal”, it isn’t the end of the road. It just means it’s time to find someone else who is willing to help you dig deeper and find answers.

We’ve been impressed with Holistic WellCare, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Holistic WellCare is a place for people with vague, chronic, mystery symptoms who want to feel better. I am passionate about autoimmune diseases. I also help with allergies, asthma, digestive symptoms, and low energy. My favorite saying is “If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream”. The body communicates using symptoms, which are clues about an underlying problem.

I am different from other health coaches because I can facilitate getting labs delivered to you. I help you understand them and recommend diet and lifestyle changes based on them so that your body can start shifting back into an optimal state of health.

I offer 1:1 health coaching for 3 months. This length of time is necessary to get labwork done, review results, make changes to bio-individualized protocols, and provide you with the tools and confidence you need moving forward.

I have a self-paced course launching soon too.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
In terms of business, working on small tasks daily is an effective approach to building your business. Establishing habits is important because if they are scheduled into your day, you don’t have to think about them. Also, get outside your comfort zone (that’s where personal growth occurs).

In terms of health, if you have an autoimmune disease, try the Autoimmune Protocol diet. It’s an elimination diet where you cut back on foods that might be causing your immune system to overreact and then reintroduce them one at a time and monitor for symptoms.

Also, take gut healing supplements like L-glutamine, slippery elm, DGL, or aloe vera juice. However, don’t forget the importance of working with someone who knows how to find the root causes of symptoms.
