Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Young
Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a greenhouse family so I’ve been working with plants my whole life. I’ve also been self employed with many different endeavors throughout my adult life. I had a cleaning business and pop-up garden centers for over 10 years but was never super settled in my career. While on vacation in 2019 ,I walked into a tiny little plant store and knew I wanted a store just like it. I came home and The Living Room was open in December 2019.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Covid was definitely a challenge to navigate. However, since people were stuck at home it did wonders for my business. I think I opened the store at the perfect time. It has been interesting to figure out ordering and keeping the store stocked appropriately for the different shopping trends. Summers are super slow because everyone is outside even though the summer weather is the perfect time to buy plants!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Living Room is a boutique plant store in downtown Colorado Springs. We specialize in houseplants and all the houseplant accessories. We strive to sell healthy plants and give honest advice on which plants are best for you and your home. We try not to sell you anything that would suffer in your home. We take into account your lighting, attention span, schedules, if you have pets or kids, etc. We sell products that we have used ourselves and that we trust and believe in.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be going to Ocean City, NJ every summer. We lived less than 2 hours from the shore so we would often go and spend many happy hours in the ocean. There is a great family-friendly Boardwalk at that beach which also is a great memory of mine.
