Hidden Gems: Meet Salem Tewolde of Bombula Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Salem Tewolde.

Hi Salem, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Salem Tewolde, born and raised in Denver, Colorado. I am a professional traveling makeup artist. I mostly work with TV/Film but I have a large bridal clientele and personal clientele. Makeup has always been a passion of mine since I was a little girl, constantly playing with my mother’s makeup and always making a mess. I knew there was something about makeup that just captured my heart.

Fast forward, 7 years in the making, pursuing my makeup career has put me in rooms I used to only dream about. In 2016, I started working at the mall for one of the biggest makeup brands today. However, I left because I knew God had something bigger and better planned for me. I began freelancing full-time officially in 2017, and it was the best decision I ever made. You can see a lot of my work on Netflix, YouTube, Revolt TV, Bravo, BET, MTV, various music videos, and more. I am beyond grateful for my hard work and dedication but this is only the beginning.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey as a professional makeup artist has not been a smooth one. There have been lots of ups and downs along the way. Many people are going to push a lot of buttons but it is your job to stay professional and calm. I have had so many companies and people tell me NO or shut down my ideas but that has never stopped me from continuing on this beautiful journey.

It’s tough dealing with different personalities and different environments. But as you grow with the industry you learn to adapt to it as well. This industry is cutthroat and if you don’t have tough skin you’re in for a rude awakening. However, there is always something very beautiful in struggle, so despite everything I’ve gone through to get to where I am today, I’ve always managed to smile through it all and kept a positive outlook on things.

Bombula Beauty was founded in 2017 when Salem Tewolde began her makeup career. Bombula Beauty is thriving at a rate we were not expecting. We specialize in bridal makeup, beauty makeup, male grooming, TV/ Film makeup, photoshoot makeup, special effects makeup, and more.

Absolutely. The main lesson I learned is that life must go on.

I know hundreds of people that took advantage of their downtime and paved the way for themselves and their businesses and they are now thriving more than they ever have. I am one of those people.
