Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Behan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After struggling with disorder patterns of eating in my younger years, I developed a passion for health, wellness and food during my recovery. I learned quickly that many people struggle with their relationships with food and find it difficult to allow themselves to indulge without attached feelings of guilt or shame. It became my goal to create a product that people could not only enjoy but could feel good about eating. Using my background in naturopathic medicine and nutrition and much trial and error in the kitchen I found my niche in baking gluten-free, refined sugar-free, vegan products that leave curb the sweet tooth but leave you feeling good about your choices. We live in a world that shames people for perceived notions of health and my goal with my business is first and foremost to educate people on the importance of their internal health, but show them they can still enjoy a sweet treat while doing so.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. My business has become my baby and I have worked hard at nourishing it and helping it grow. We originally began Simply Savvys as a concept kitchen in Connecticut, creating baked goods and foods that helped to nourish the body and heal the soul through the use of added superfoods and organic wholesome ingredients. During covid, we faced some struggles as we had a temporary shutdown to help protect our employees and the community but that time off provided us the opportunity to make a big change and move to Colorado. I expected moving the business to be difficult but with the help of local officials and other business owners, we were welcomed into the community wholeheartedly and couldn’t be happier. We are overjoyed to serve a community so dedicated to their health and wellness and who understands the importance of what we put in our bodies and the effect food has on our body, mind and soul.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our business was founded on the idea that food can be both healthy and enjoyable. Everyone who enjoys one of our delicious baked goods should know that they are free from refined sugars, gluten, dairy and animal products. We pride ourselves on providing foods and desserts that leave you feeling satisfied and your bodies system supported. What sets us apart from others is our wholesome, clean ingredients. We only use the highest quality and pure ingredients with no additives and no chemicals. We’re proud to belong to a community that shares our passion for health, wellness and our sweet tooth 🙂 And we are so excited to fulfill such a wanted and needed commodity in our area. We offer a variety of baked goods (specializing in donuts) and offer catering for events as well as local delivery.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up I spent a lot of time in the kitchen with my mom and dad, always helping to prepare dinner. But my fondest memory is the time I spent overseas. During high school summer vacation, I would go internationally to developing nations volunteering in projects that helped the local villages. I participated in everything from water irrigation development to environmental conservation projects. During my time spent with the locals at village stays, I learned so much about cultural cuisine and enjoyed the love the locals put into their cooking. I was able to learn new cooking techniques and play with spices, herbs and medicinal foods that I otherwise never would have gotten the opportunity too.
