Hidden Gems: Meet Tamara Hill of LiftOff Your Finances

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Hill.

Hi Tamara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Many years ago, when I experienced a radical lifestyle change, I decided that someday I would like to write books and offer public speaking sessions, to help people overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. I did this informally for many years by helping encourage friends, family, and coworkers through several life transitions, including job loss, relationship difficulties, negative self-esteem, and more. To my delight, many of the suggestions I offered were well-received and the people I helped would often share how my insights helped transform their personal situations. Fast-forward to the COVID-19 pandemic and I felt very motivated to officially launch my efforts through a new set of educational programming that I’ve branded as Liftoff™.

LiftOff™ is designed to inspire participants to adopt new mindsets to achieve their goals. During the early stages of the pandemic, many people were laid off from their jobs, so I started an online blog – LiftOff from Layoff™ – with helpful articles and resources to help those who were navigating unemployment. My knowledge of this topic came from experiencing job loss myself and successfully coming out on the other side – more than once. I continued the blog through much of 2020 before I reached out to my local church to ask if I could offer in-person career resources – such as resume writing, job search tips, and more – to help those who were out of work. Instead, my church asked if I could expand the topic to focus on financial topics since many of my blog posts discussed the importance of money management during times of job loss. I took that advice and launched a six-week class at church called LiftOff Your Finances™ that has since grown into a nationwide television, radio, and podcast program.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many entrepreneurs, I experienced obstacles and challenges along the way. As I mentioned, LiftOff™ started as a personal dream many years ago, long before I officially branded it as LiftOff™. I always maintained a comprehensive collection of journal articles about various self-help topics that I eventually planned to fashion into a book, but I didn’t officially create Liftoff™ as a business until 2017. Soon afterward, I experienced several obstacles, including multiple independent contractors misrepresenting how they could help me get started with my business, which led to a loss of time and money. When I finally re-launched LiftOff™ independently in 2020, there were many successes – like hosting my first live conference and launching the programs on national television and radio networks – but eventually, other challenges arose financially, including securing corporate sponsorships to continue funding the programs.

I initially financed the majority of the work through personal bonuses from my full-time job and side hustles, but that approach was never meant to be a permanent solution, only a way to help jump-start launching the business. I still am actively seeking collaborators and partners to help me continue advancing this work, which has been very well-received across the nation. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing someone share how the information presented through LiftOff™ has helped transform their financial situations. To date, I’ve had many viewers, listeners, and participants share how they became debt free, purchased their first homes, and much more based on the information shared through my LiftOff™ programs.

The purpose of LiftOff Your Finances™ is to help participants transform their economic positions and achieve their dreams by applying Biblical Wisdom and practical financial tips. LiftOff Your Finances™ is not focused on investment strategies but provides participants with key principles to maximize their incomes through faith, effective budgeting, savings, and debt elimination.

What sets this program apart from other financial education is that it’s presented with a “judgment-free” tone because I believe people respond better to inspiration and a new mindset about what’s possible, versus criticism over mistakes they’ve made in the past. Additionally, LiftOff Your Finances™ is based on a streamlined financial approach that’s easy for anyone to follow.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is to keep an open mind and to remain flexible about the direction of your business and purpose.

For example, my current business model looks very different from what I originally envisioned 25 years ago, but the essence of that vision – to help people transform their lives through faith and adopting new mindsets – is still very present and true.
