Hidden Gems: Meet Tory Travers of The Self Healing Organism

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tory Travers.

Tory Travers

Hi Tory, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, my name is Tory Nicole Travers and I believe our mess is our message. The things we struggle with and learn to overcome, are what we then help others with. For me, I help women reduce inflammation through a trauma informed approach, so they can find wellness after autoimmune diagnosis.

My intentional healing journey began when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Crohn’s. Which means I had inflammation in my digestive tract.

I rejected the medication prescribed because I was supposed to take it for the rest of my life; which had a 1/1000 chance of giving me cancer, and it would leave me immunocompromised. Instead, I was determined to find a way to heal the root cause in a holistic way.

Ten years later, I am in the best health of my life, and my wellness journey continues. I have learned many causes of inflammation, and now I share what I have learned. My mission is to demystify the link between trauma and inflammation.

Wellness after chronic illness is possible!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey has not been a smooth road, but I think that’s the point. Our struggles teach us in ways that nothing else can. When we learn to listen to our body’s signals, sensations, and messages, we can give ourselves what we need.

I would say the biggest struggle has been mourning each version of myself. When you’re healing, your identity gets challenged. You are reinventing who you are and what you believe over and over again.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Self Healing Organism. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand?
The Self Healing Organism differs from other wellness approaches because we operate from the philosophy that healing is natural. Your being is designed to heal, given the right circumstances.

We focus on trauma resolution to decrease inflammation because we believe this link is missing in most modalities. The nervous system must be acknowledged to heal chronic dis-ease.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Trauma is in a huge spotlight right now.

I see the relationship between trauma & stress being stored in the body and chronic disease becoming more apparent in the mainstream. Additionally, our understanding of trauma is shifting. We are, as a collective, acknowledging how the stress response of getting stuck ON… leads to chronic health issues. Trauma is not isolated to singular, horrific events.

I forecast more research and studies pertaining to both chronic illness and trauma as a whole.
