Today we’d like to introduce you to Tucker Grose
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started coaching endurance athletes back in 2019 when I was living in Boston. At first it was just a side hustle, but then the covid pandemic happened and I was laid off from my day job and so I dove in head first to coaching! I moved to Colorado in May 2020 and started hosting weekly group runs in Denver in the fall of 2020. I coach athletes all over the country and also coach a group of adult athletes in Denver. That group meets weekly for workouts at mile high stadium/local tracks year round! I primarily coach athletes who are training for half marathon to marathon on roads and trails, with a few ultramarathoners sprinkled in! I also coach HS Track and Cross Country at Standley Lake High School in Westminster. When I am not running and coaching I also enjoy skiing, camping, volunteering at the Luvin Arms animal sanctuary, and playing hockey 1-2 times per week!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think any entrepreneurial venture is a smooth road, mine certainly hasn’t been. I would say the biggest struggles are the natural fluctuations in business that can lead to doubts and concerns around my financial security. Though I am lucky to coach many athletes for 2-3+ years, you learn that clients do come and go. At first it was hard not to take that personally and see it as a reflection of my coaching. Over time I have learned that things come in waves and not to get too high when things are going well, and not to get too low when I lose a couple clients in a short span of time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Training With Tucker?
I coach endurance athletes, primarily runners who are focused on training for races ranging from 5k on the road to 100+ miles on trails. My coaching philosophy centers around helping athletes train in a way that prioritizes health and happiness. I tell all my prospective clients that I see this is a long term relationship and that my goal is to help them make long term progress not short term gains. Any coach can throw a ton of volume and fancy workouts at an athlete and get short term results, but often that comes at the cost of injury, burnout, illness.. My goal is to help individuals have movement be a part of their lives for the long run! I offer individualized coaching for athletes of all ages and abilities, I use an online platform called FinalSurge to map out their training on a weekly basis and I modify training based on how they are adapting to the work we are doing. I also offer an in person group in Denver that meets for workouts on Wednesday evenings.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the weather!! As a runner I really love that we can get outside and run in shorts and a T-shirt most days of the year as long as you have some flexibility in your schedule. I also love how active everyone is. Colorado is a playground for humans of all ages and it is great seeing so many adults stay very active with all sorts of different hobbies. I don’t have many complaints at all about Denver, the only one that comes to mind is the traffic.. I wish we had a better public transit system for the front range that would allow for people to ditch the cars.
