Hidden Gems: Meet Willis Wood of RiNo Sign Works

Today we’d like to introduce you to Willis Wood.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After college, I started working at a trade show manufacturer and quickly learned about the world of trade shows. After working there for over a year, I decided to give entrepreneurship a shot and started my first company called Trade Show Emporium in 2007. We designed and produced exhibit booths for people to take to trade shows. In 2013 I started my second company called RiNo Sign Works. We design, fabricate and install custom building signage. I sold Trade Show Emporium in 2019 to concentrate full-time on RiNo Sign Works. RiNo Sign Works just celebrated our 9th year in business and we just bought our own building in Denver.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle has been finding and retaining good employees. We have a great team here at RiNo but it has taken years to form the solid team that we have now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about RiNo Sign Works?
Born in the River North (RiNo) district of Downtown Denver, RiNo Sign Works is a specialty sign manufacturer serving the front range of Colorado and a growing number of national clients. Now located in Denver, CO, we create dynamic signage that reflects the brand, image and attitude that companies have worked so hard to cultivate.

We specialize in designing and fabricating high-end custom signage. We are a UL-listed shop so we can put lights in our sighs and have them be UL certified. Most of our signs are made from aluminum but we also make signs out of acrylic, wood, and other materials. A lot of the jobs that we do are jobs that other sign companies are reluctant to take on. We like taking on the challenging jobs!

Have you heard of Meow Wolf? They are an immersive art creator and just built a huge new location here in Denver. We helped design, fabricate, and install over 90 signs to make this new attraction come to life. Check it out here: https://rinosignworks.com/portfolio/meow-wolf-denver-convergence-station/

We are proud that people think of RiNo Sign Works as the go-to sign shop for cool and high-end signage.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I like to attend networking events that are high-level with other like-minded entrepreneurs.
