Inspiring Conversations with Alexi Price of F.I.T.T. PERFORMANCE STUDIO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexi Price.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Back in 2014 I had dropped out of cosmetology school for health reasons and really had no idea what else to do with my life. I was deep in the throws of a drug addiction and an eating disorder, I was neglecting my health and my future, I was 22 and aimless. That’s when everything changed, one day while babysitting I slipped and found myself in excruciating pain. Hours later at the doctor I found out I had broken my hip and was going to have to have emergency surgery. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 22 and told that because of this the repair the surgeons had done on my hip might not work and I would likely need a hip replacement that would limit my function for the rest of my life. This was the moment I finally woke up, I realized the life I was living wasn’t the one I wanted and I needed to find a way to do better. I knew I needed to learn to take care of myself and exercise seemed like the place to start, so that is where I started.
I enrolled in school full time for exercise science and started lifting weights (after healing from surgery) I sought treatment for my addiction and eating disorder and dedicated my life to putting myself back together and building a future.
in 2017 I finished school, obtained my CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist) and found a job working in a physical therapy clinic. At this time I knew I was going to pursue more school but I wasn’t sure what route I wanted to go so I wanted a job where I could continue to learn while I decided what I wanted further down the line. I spent just over 2 years working as an exercise specialist for the clinic before I started a strength and conditioning (S&C) program alongside my 40 hour a week job in patient care. I was starting to see a future where S&C coexisted with physical therapy and at this point it was clear to me that I wanted to be on the S&C side of this equation.
I spent another 2 years working nearly 60 hours a week before stepping out of patient care and into S&C full time. It was at this point that I made the decision to get my Master’s degree in exercise science. I continued to work at the clinic through school. Finally school came to an end and in an attempt to grow my training business I started taking clients at two clinic locations, this was how things went until 2023.
After the clinic I was at went through a corporate buyout I made the tough decision to walk away from this partnership and set out on my own. In a matter of months F.I.T.T. Performance Studio was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been anything but easy, rock bottom is where I started and building from there to where I am now was anything but straight forward.
After years of building a client base COVID hit weeks after I made the switch to full time S&C and I had to quickly figure out a way to stay engaged with my clients and not allow what I had spent years building turn to nothing. I quickly put virtual training into play and found a way to coach through the entire pandemic, all while going to school full time.
Then it was a major blow when my clinic was sold and the environment and vision I had for MY business was pulled out from under me. I knew that I needed to make a change but setting out on my own was scary, and at the time it was a step I wasn’t sure I was ready for.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have built an entirely referral based private gym. I collaborate with all walks of health care providers, from orthopedic doctors, physical therapist, dieticians and massage therapists. This model allows me to always have the answers for my client’s needs and to always be learning how to be a more effective trainer by working with a variety of practitioners. I specialize in function, I work with clients of all ages, abilities and goals.
I am most proud of the level of knowledge I bring to the table and how it allows me to work with a wide range of clients and help them make the most of their bodies to be able to do the things they love to do.
I offer 1:1 training and app based programs to help clients see the results they’re looking for faster, safer and in a more functional way than most trainers out there.
The general public doesn’t realize that most personal trainers have no formal education, take open note tests and have very limited continuing education requirements.
Strength and conditioning specialists on the other hand must hold at least an undergraduate degree, sit for a closed note test and complete many hours of a wide range of education to hold their certification. This higher standard allows for safer and more effective training.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be prepared to work harder than you ever thought you could and then some. The trainers who make it are the ones who have a vision and do it for the clients, not the money or the social media followers.
