Inspiring Conversations with Anna Frost of Boulder Consultation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Frost.

Anna Frost

Hi Anna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Is your long-term relationship unsatisfying?   Are you lonely in your marriage?
Is your career taking off, and your home life is disappointing?
Is your sex life with your partner unfulfilling?
Are you wanting a partner who gets you, sees you, and cares about your needs?

If so, you’re in the right place. I’m Anna Frost, a licensed Relational Psychoanalyst with over twenty years of private clinical experience, and I love helping people just like you.

I came to this field because I found my relationships were failing — I was lost, alone, and heartbroken. I knew I needed to learn very specifically and very personally how relationships work, so I changed my career and began to study psychology.

I found my life partner in the psychology program, and together, our interest drove us to learn everything about how relationships work and don’t work. We pursued and developed expertise — becoming psychoanalysts and practicing in Asheville, NC, for 20 years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In 2019, we moved to Boulder and easily transitioned our business here. However, in 2023, my partner, Bill, died in a skiing accident. That life event caused me to learn how to metabolize intense grief, develop footing, and reorient my practice and myself in many arenas.

In these last couple of years, I transitioned to a solo practice called PsychAnalysis 2.0, available at boulderconsultation.com. (I changed the name to PsychAnalysis because Psychoanalysis includes the pathologizing term psycho — inaccurate for positive psychological work.)

PsychAnalysis is about optimizing our psyche, i.e., our soul, by exploring, understanding and optimally positioning our Selves, with our needs/desires in relation to the people we care about.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Boulder Consultation?
I work with individuals and couples who value self-inquiry and connection in their relationships. Many of the professionals I work with come from high-pressure fields — healthcare, tech, science, executive leadership, where logic and performance are essential — and where effective “relationing/positioning” can be neglected. I also specialize in working with men, to help them develop emotional curiosity, bandwidth, and pleasure with each interaction/conversation at work and at home.

In addition, if you or anyone you know is going through a grieving period or experiencing sorrow due to the loss of any relationship — I’d love to help.

*Relationing is a made-up term for important nuances in communication.

People have many choices when exploring this kind of work. Why choose me, an analyst, rather than a therapist? Analysts undergo extensive relationship training (coursework, personal analysis, case supervision) lasting on average 3-5 years longer than therapist/psychologist education.

If you’re curious about this process and want to learn more, you’re most welcome to contact me for a free 15-minute consult over Zoom.

What does success mean to you?
Along with external achievements — success includes inhabiting (leaning into, enjoying) meaningful relationships/connections built on emotional availability.

Relationship Vitality = the ability to access pleasure & play with the wide variety of nuances inherent in ‘relationing.’

Why not reliably enjoy emotional/relational success too?
