Today we’d like to introduce you to David Roberts.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story in construction started with my family. I’m a generational builder, and my father played a big role in introducing me to the industry and shaping my appreciation for the trade. Construction has always been about more than just building something; it’s about craftsmanship, problem-solving, and creating something that lasts.
I began my career working in concrete on custom homes in Aspen and Snowmass, Colorado. That experience gave me a strong foundation in the construction industry and exposed me to the level of precision, quality, and attention to detail that goes into building high-end homes.
In 2007, Innovative Construction was originally established in Utah, with a primary focus on concrete. Over time, the company and my experience evolved, allowing us to expand beyond concrete into a broader range of construction services. Today, Innovative Construction LTD offers services that include general contracting, home additions, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and remodeling.
Getting to where we are today has been a process of learning, adapting, and building relationships. My background in concrete gave me an appreciation for the importance of a solid foundation, both in construction and in business. We believe in doing quality work, being open and transparent with our clients, and taking pride in the finished product.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like most businesses, we’ve faced the typical challenges of getting a company off the ground and building a steady stream of work. The first three years were especially slow. It was just my business partner and me, taking on whatever jobs we could find, including a lot of smaller, odd-end jobs that helped keep us busy and the business moving forward.
Those early years taught us the importance of being flexible, working hard, and being willing to take on whatever opportunities came our way. Not every job was glamorous, but every project was a chance to learn, build our reputation, and develop relationships with customers.
Looking back, those years helped lay the groundwork for what Innovative Construction LTD has become today. Building a business takes patience and persistence, and we learned early on that success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to be willing to put in the work, stay committed through the slow times, and keep moving forward.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Innovative Construction LTD?
Innovative Construction LTD is a general contracting and construction company built on a foundation of hands-on experience, quality craftsmanship, and a strong work ethic. With roots dating back to 2007 in Utah, where the company originally focused on concrete, we’ve grown into a business that offers a wide range of construction services.
Today, we specialize in general contracting, home additions, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and remodeling. Our background in concrete and custom home construction has given us a strong understanding of what it takes to build projects the right way, from the foundation to the finishing details. We enjoy taking on projects that help homeowners improve their spaces, add functionality and value to their properties, and bring their ideas to life.
What sets us apart is our hands-on approach and the experience we bring to every project. Coming from a family of builders, I understand the importance of doing quality work and standing behind what you build. We believe construction should be a collaborative process built on trust, communication, and finding practical solutions. Every project is different, and we take pride in working with our clients to understand their goals and determine the best way to achieve them.
One thing I’m especially proud of is how the company has evolved over the years. What started as a small concrete-focused business has grown into a broader construction company, and that growth represents years of hard work, persistence, and learning along the way. We’ve worked hard to build a brand that reflects reliability, versatility, and a genuine commitment to our customers.
Ultimately, I want people to know that Innovative Construction LTD is a company they can turn to for more than just a single type of construction project. Whether they’re planning a remodel, adding space to their home, building an ADU, or tackling a larger construction project, our goal is to make the process as straightforward as possible and deliver work we can all be proud of. We’re proud of our roots, proud of the work we do, and excited to continue building relationships and serving our community.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is spending time with my family, getting outdoors, and staying busy doing what I enjoy. Camping and hunting give me a chance to step away from the day-to-day demands of running a business, enjoy the outdoors, and make memories with family and friends.
I also genuinely enjoy working. Construction is more than just a job to me; it’s something I’ve grown up around and take a lot of pride in. I enjoy the process of building something, solving problems, and seeing a project come together from start to finish. At the end of the day, it’s about finding a good balance between working hard, spending time with the people who matter most, and enjoying the life you’re building along the way.
