Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Price.
Hi Devyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was little, I dreamed of being a rock star, a teacher, a scientist, and an author all at once. If you’d told me back then that I’d actually become a vocal instructor, a bandleader, and a writer I’d have said, “Yeah, that tracks.” (I was always a little extra.)
I grew up the daughter of a radio DJ and a singer, so music wasn’t just background noise. I spent my days in choir and my nights listening to rock, pop, and musical theater. For a long time, I thought everyone lived surrounded by melodies and stories.
As I got older, life got louder. Motherhood, responsibilities, and a creeping stage fright nudged singing to the back burner. The girl who once belted out show tunes in the car found herself holding back, afraid to be seen or heard. I missed the joy of singing, but I didn’t know how to get it back.
Then, one day, I decided to buy a guitar. It was the first I’d owned in decades. I signed up as a student at School of Rock, determined to relearn something I’d loved. I thought I was there for the guitar, but my voice had other plans. Slowly, week by week, I started to chip away at my stage fright. I found myself singing again in front of people. It was terrifying, exhilarating, and, in hindsight, the start of something bigger.
Eventually, I was invited to become a vocal instructor at School of Rock. I began working with students of all ages, helping them find their voices and face their own fears. Teaching gave me a new kind of confidence that came from watching others grow. And then I started fronting my own band. I was singing on stage, embracing the spotlight I’d once avoided.
But life has a way of throwing curveballs. In 2020, my body staged an intervention: three herniated discs left me flat on my back, forced to slow down. In that quiet, COVID-induced secluded space, I realized how much I’d been pushing myself by chasing goals, ticking boxes, and losing sight of the joy that first drew me to music. For the first time in years, I let myself rest. And, in that stillness, I finished writing a book I’d dreamed about for decades and rediscovered my authentic singing voice.
During and after my time at School of Rock, I started teaching in people’s homes and online, meeting students where they were, literally and emotionally. My favorite students were the ones who, like me, had put their voice and authentic expression on the back burner as a “one day” dream, while life passed by unnoticed. I saw myself in them: the nervous beginners, the people who’d forgotten what it felt like to sing without fear, the ones who thought their time had passed.
When I moved to Colorado, I fell in love with the people of Lafayette. Their warmth and spirit inspired me to take the leap and open my own studio, a place for anyone who’s ever felt too late, too nervous, or too “not enough.” Today, my studio includes performance classes, yoga, somatic movement – anything that helps the mind and body get ready for true self-expression, without fear.
I created this space for the people who, like me, discovered their true passions by daring to do something for themselves. It’s a place to find your voice, literally and metaphorically, and to feel at home in your body and your story. That’s why I opened this studio, and that’s who it’s for.
I did become a rock star teacher scientist author. Just not exactly the way I pictured it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? Honestly, no. And I wouldn’t have it any other way, because every bump taught me something important.
I’ve gone through more than a few iterations of what I do, from creativity coaching to trying my hand as a yoga teacher, a writing teacher, and everything in between. Each pivot came with its own set of challenges and lessons. In 2023, I took a huge leap: I packed up everything I knew and worked for and moved to Colorado, where I didn’t know a soul or much about the place at all. Starting over from scratch was both terrifying and exhilarating.
Opening my own in-person studio for the first time was a steep learning curve. There’s a lot of “figuring it out as I go,” and that’s still true today. I’ve had to navigate everything from building a community from the ground up to learning the ins and outs of running a small business, often while feeling like I’m making it up as I go along.
On top of all that, I’ve had to manage my chronic back issues, which is its own ongoing journey. Teaching movement and voice work while also needing to pace myself has been a delicate balance. I’ve learned that if I push too hard, I risk ending up flat on my back again so I’m constantly relearning how to take care of myself while helping others.
Also, there’s the world we’re living in. In today’s political and economic climate, a lot of people are putting themselves and their creative expression on the back burner and giving all of their energy to anxiety and fear. It can be hard to convince people that their authentic voice matters, especially when life feels overwhelming. But I believe, now more than ever, that we need spaces for real expression and connection.
If all that weren’t enough, I’m also helping to run a home with two teenagers, two dogs, and two cats. Some days it feels like I’m juggling a dozen things at once.
But every challenge has made me a better teacher and a more compassionate guide. I’ve learned to embrace the messiness, to find joy in the process, and to remind myself and my students that it’s okay to take small steps forward, even when the road is bumpy
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fiercely Vocal Studio is a place for anyone who wants to find or rediscover their voice—in singing, performance, or simply feeling more alive in their body. I help people overcome physical and emotional blockages through vocal technique, somatic movement, and yoga, so they can express their healthy, authentic voice with confidence.
At my studio, the focus is on blending vocal coaching with yoga and somatic movement. This isn’t just about hitting the right notes; it’s about helping singers connect deeply with their bodies, release tension, and build confidence from the inside out. I work with people who’ve put their voices on the back burner for too long—people who’ve told themselves “one day” while life passed by unnoticed.
I started by teaching in people’s homes and online, meeting students wherever they were ready. My favorite students are those who, like me, have struggled with performance anxiety or felt stuck in their own bodies. After moving to Colorado, I fell in love with the community in Lafayette and decided to open my own studio—a welcoming space for anyone who’s ever felt too nervous, too late, or not enough.
My approach is rooted in a unique fusion of disciplines. I combine vocal coaching with yoga and somatic movement techniques, focusing on body awareness, alignment, and breath control. I use fascia release and therapeutic yoga to help singers release trapped emotions and overcome physical restrictions. Storytelling is part of the mix, but it’s not the main event; it’s one of many tools that help students connect emotionally and express themselves more fully.
I offer a range of programs, including group classes, private lessons, and immersive workshops. There are performance classes, yoga sessions, and somatic movement workshops—all designed to get the mind and body ready for authentic self-expression, without fear. My digital courses and online community make it easy for students to connect and grow, no matter where they are.
What sets Fiercely Vocal Studio apart is the holistic approach. I’m not just a voice coach or a yoga teacher; I’m a guide who helps people become more present, more embodied, and more confident in who they are. My background as a writer, movement teacher, and performer means I bring creativity and empathy to every lesson, but the real magic is in the fusion of movement and voice.
I’m most proud of creating a space where people can be their whole selves—messy, authentic, and unapologetic. My brand is about transformation, not perfection. It’s about helping people feel at home in their bodies and their voices, so they can show up fully in life.
I want readers to know that Fiercely Vocal Studio is more than a music school. It’s a community for anyone who’s ever felt stuck, silenced, or just plain scared to be seen. It’s for nervous beginners, seasoned performers, or creatives who just wants to feel seen or heard.
