Today we’d like to introduce you to Dhaisy Vue.
Dhaisy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a young first generation Asian American growing up in the era of evolving technology and social media, I was always very hard on myself about the way I looked heavily influenced by racial differences, societal standards, and basic preteen insecurities. I always compared myself to others that I went to school with or beautiful women on social media. In my 13 year old mind, the only way to be pretty was to wear what everyone else was wearing, doing my hair like everyone else, and doing my makeup like everyone else. After years of watching beauty gurus on YouTube and attempting to do my makeup just like them, I finally realized that some of these techniques will NEVER work on me and my features. I was trying to do American makeup on my Asian face. I was constantly trying to reshape and cover up my own natural features. As I grew up, I started embracing my own natural features given to me by my ancestors. Instead of trying to cover them and change them, I learned to enhance them. Throughout my continuous self-discovery journey, I learned to love who I am but I also learned that cosmetic enhancements are perfectly normal and boost self esteem. I joined the beauty industry in 2020 and I have used my platform as an esthetician to promote self love and self care. I went from the quietest person in my 7th grade class to a now very out-spoken, confident Esthetician Instructor and business owner. I can surely say that makeup changed my life and pushed me to become the proud woman I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle for me was accepting and loving who I am. Comparing myself to every woman I saw would constantly be the death of me. I had to leave social media so I wouldn’t spend so much time comparing myself to others and putting myself down. Self-love is a journey that never ends. Although I am confident in who I am, I face my insecurities everyday and overcome it by filling my mind with positivity and assurance in the person that I am and how my beauty shines from within.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mainly focus on lash extensions. I offer basic skincare services and brow services. I recently just launched my lash extension course to certify other estheticians in advanced lash application. I think my own personal story bleeds into who I am as an esthetician because I understand how vanity can affect ones well-being. I understand that clients expect to look and feel beautiful after they leave the spa. I pride myself on my ability to get to know my clients on a real level and become a part of their self-love journey.
Any big plans?
I am looking forward to start teaching my lash extension courses. I would love to open my own esthetics school in the future that focuses on proper sanitation, technique/protocols, and of course, self love! I am currently looking to move to a bigger space so that I can teach classes and rent out a space for growing lash artists.
