Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Rigney.
Hi Elise, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Growing up lower class, I knew that if I wanted to go to college, I would need to make that happen on my own. I began working at a young age. Picking rock in fields and babysitting turned into a W2 position at age 14 as a grocery clerk. As soon as I turned 16, I began to wait tables at a local restaurant. It was ten years in the restaurant industry and applying for multiple scholarships, that took me through my undergrad and graduate school.
I attended the University of Minnesota and studied abroad at the University of Oslo and completed my Bachelor’s degrees in two and a half years. I knew I needed to accelerate that process in order to decrease student loan amounts. I then went on to complete my Doctorate of Chiropractic at Northwestern University. Shortly after my last residency in The Woodlands, Texas, my husband and I packed up our car and drove to Fort Collins, Colorado.
Since then, I’ve grown Impact Chiropractic from a solo doctor’s office into a state-of-the-art Chiropractic office with six brilliant doctors. We’ve grown organically but connected with other small businesses, giving back to local nonprofits, and spending our weekends engulfed with everything Fort Collins has to offer. We truly love our community!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been some roadblocks along the way. It was challenging to get a small business loan in 2012 when I opened. I ended up having to leverage our cattle back in Minnesota in order to secure a small loan. My vision for serving the community was so big, that I knew financing wasn’t going to hold me back. I just had to get creative with it.
March 2020 was also a big challenge for many businesses. Our state was one of two states in the country to shut down Chiropractors – even though we are considered Essential Healthcare Workers. I had my third child on March 19th and was shutting down our practice one week postpartum. It was heart-wrenching closing down. For many of our patients, we are the highlight of their week. Chiropractic Care is also a way that many patients choose to manage their anxiety and balance their nervous systems. This was incredibly essential to many.
We navigated all of the restrictions with re-opening – and we are all still adapting today. What we did discover with the pandemic though, was it was the first time many people had thought about how they can strengthen their immune system. That was a huge factor in our continued growth. People were seeking us out to stay healthy and prevent disease in their bodies. So great to see mindset shifts from emergency care to preventative care.
As you know, we’re big fans of Impact Chiropractic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our six female Chiropractors and the rest of the friendly team at Impact Chiropractic are dedicated to chiropractic solutions to target patients’ unique needs. Whether they are suffering from neck pain or back pain, migraines or headaches, pregnancy discomfort, or a decreased quality of life due to health issues, we want to help. We will work to get our patients to a state of “wellness” or “lifestyle” care, where their nervous system and thus their bodies are functioning optimally.
Our doctors have been voted “Best of Colorado” for seven years running. They have all completed hundreds of additional post-doctoral hours in Pediatric Chiropractic Care and Prenatal Chiropractic Care. They are all certified in the Webster technique. They also specialize in Spinal Corrective Care using radiology imaging to measure out the biophysical proper curvature on each patient.
We created and practice a 5 Step Health Correction system in our office. The biggest benefit of it is that the adjustments patients receive in our clinic, last longer than a standard Chiropractic adjustment. We incorporate cervical traction, neuromuscular re-education exercises, specific hands-on Chiropractic care, and vibration therapy.
We at Impact Chiropractic are incredibly proud to be serving the Fort Collins and Loveland communities!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
All of my favorite childhood memories revolve around team sports. Volleyball and softball kept me incredibly active, social and taught me how to work with a team. I credit many life lessons to those I learned from coaches and teammates.
