Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica.
Hi Erica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I actually got into nutrition because I was originally looking for a career that would support my life as an actress in NYC and give me the flexibility to go out on more auditions. My boyfriend at the time said, “What about nutrition? You love it, and people are always asking you for advice anyway…” and a lightbulb instantly went off! I immediately knew that was what I wanted to do next, so I took the GREs, applied to grad schools, and eventually chose NYU!
I grew up in a healthy family, my Mom always cooked, and I was always super active. In NYC though, I started feeling a little “softer” than I wanted to, and when I tried working with a dietitian, I basically got a food pyramid thrown at me and told I was fine. I left feeling frustrated and misunderstood, but I didn’t give up. Eventually, I found a dietitian who helped me break out of the “eat less, do more cardio” mindset that so many people are stuck in. I started eating more – especially more protein – and my body composition completely transformed. For the first time, I learned how to fuel properly and use nutrition to actually support my body composition goals.
Around that same time, I found CrossFit and was in complete awe of how strong women could be! A few years later, I had earned my Master’s in Clinical Nutrition from NYU, completed my dietetic internship at NYU Medical Center, passed my Registered Dietitian exam, and started coaching CrossFit. I never looked back.
Over the past years I’ve built Erica’s Edge Nutrition & Training into something I once only dreamed about. What started as a practical career path quickly became something so much bigger. I realized that nutrition, fitness, and helping people transform their lives both inside and out was what I was truly meant to do. I found my purpose and I couldn’t be happier or more grateful that I did.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If anyone tells you their road was easy, they’re probably on the wrong road. I don’t think anyone who is truly successful gets there without setbacks, risks, and a whole lot of uncomfortable growth along the way. I once had a mentor tell me, “I need you to fail faster,” and that advice always stuck with me. Since then, I’ve tried to approach life and business by taking chances, testing new ideas, launching new programs, moving states, shifting from in-person coaching to virtual, and honestly…? Just going for it.
Along the way, I’ve navigated betrayal from people I thought supported me, battling an intense perfectionist mindset, all the constant ups & downs of owning your own business, and learning how to wear about 47 different hats at once. It’s not easy to go all-in on yourself, but I know in my bones that this is one of my purposes. I trust that as long as I work hard, stay true to myself, and follow my heart and gut, that everything will unfold exactly the way it’s supposed to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Erica’s Edge Nutrition & Training is a nutrition coaching and training practice built around helping people look & feel amazing inside and out – healthy, “ripped,” strong, confident, and empowered. We specialize in a macros-based approach to nutrition with a strong emphasis on improving body composition (more muscle, less fat), optimizing metabolism, balancing blood sugar, cholesterol & hormones, improving gut health, and creating a healthier, more sustainable relationship with food.
What really sets Erica’s Edge apart is how we work with clients so the changes they make are not only efficient & effective (i.e. they WORK, and they work right away), but also woven into the life they already have so they actually change their lives for the long run! We teach people how to fuel themselves properly, balance their macros (proteins/carbs/fat), build strength, improve their health, and create habits. We’re big on education, flexibility, accountability, and helping clients understand the “why” behind what they’re doing.
In addition to private nutrition coaching, I also offer three signature programs: The Food & Fitness Challenge, a structured life-changing reset designed to help give people a kick-in-the-butt to rebuild habits, consistency, and confidence around food & training; The Longevity Challenge, which shifts the focus deeper into micronutrients and takes nutrition to the next level; and The Edge Nutrition Group, a lower-touch ongoing coaching option for those who want continued guidance but not the regular private sessions.
Over the years, Erica’s Edge has grown from just me into an amazing team of Registered Dietitians and coaches who truly care and are exceptional at helping people transform. We work with everyone from busy parents and professionals to high-level executives and competitive athletes. We’ve helped thousands of people feel better in their bodies, gain confidence, improve health markers like diabetes and cholesterol, PR lifts / races / win championships, and more. And just as importantly – that they feel supported, understood, and empowered along the way.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with tools and voices that keep you growing, both personally and professionally. I consistently come back to the Finding Mastery podcast, which I love for performance psychology. I read and listen to audiobooks a lot, and love anything from Brené Brown (The Gifts of Imperfection in particular helped me break free from my overly perfectionist mindset).
I recommend Atomic Habits all the time because it’s such a simple but powerful framework for behavior change. I also really like The Gap and The Gain for mindset and perspective, and 10x Is Easier Than 2x for the entrepreneur.
And I know this sounds silly, but I love Ted Lasso and often find myself coming back to quotes and moments in the show that give such a grounded, kind, and honest perspective on life. Not settling for fine, being curious not judgmental, and good ol’ fashion “believe,” are some top moments.
All that said, one of the most important “resources” in my life isn’t a podcast, book, or TV show — it’s my people. I’m so grateful to have found friends who I can be fully myself with, who listen without judgment, challenge my thinking, help me sort through ideas and insecurities, and genuinely support my dreams.
