Inspiring Conversations with Eryn Hays of A Touch of Peace: Massage Therapy and Bodywork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eryn Hays.

Hi Eryn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What is my story? Well, I honestly got into the holistic wellness industry due to my own mental health issues. Back in college–specifically my sophomore year–I struggled deeply with really bad social anxiety and depression. So much so that my counselor recommended that I begin taking medication; however, when I discussed this with my parents, they both believed that I should try other methods before turning to prescription drugs. So I did. I first began with meditation and getting really interested in astrology and different spiritualities. This led me down the path of becoming a massage therapist because in my personal opinion it is so important that people participate in preventative medicine rather than immediately turning towards a solution. My whole philosophy, and why I am now also a certified wellness coach and herbalist, is that if you take care of the body as a whole BEFORE any issues arise, you are less likely to have to turn to surgery and prescription medicine that could have long-lasting side effects. I do believe in Western medicine in a lot of regards, I get my shots every year! However, it seems as if people expect instant results nowadays and they don’t realize that our health is a lifelong process that takes time and dedication.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely had its obstacles. COVID-19 for one, haha. I had just opened my private doors a year before COVID came into society, so that was definitely tricky with closing down my business for a bit, trying to figure out when I could ethically open back up, what my cleaning solutions should be, etc. It was all big learning process, and luckily the whole Colorado massage community worked hard together to figure out what were the best solutions for us moving forward. However, some of us are still struggling due to COVID and a lot of massage businesses shut down. I mean, our whole business is touching people and we were dealing with a pandemic that literally told us to social distance. Looking back on it, it was a pretty insane time. Luckily, I did not have any cases of COVID spread in my business, although I was exposed a multitude of times. Now that my COVID obstacle is over with, my new obstacle is expanding my business by buying property here in Denver and hiring other holistic health practitioners to create a community that focuses on the wellness and well-being of others through physical, mental, and spiritual means.

As you know, we’re big fans of A Touch of Peace: Massage Therapy & Bodywork. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business started as a small sole proprietorship and is now expanding into becoming an LLC. I am looking to create a Wellness Center where people who are focused on their health can come and get everything they need all in one location. I, personally, am looking to focus on becoming a Wholistic Wellness Coach where my client and I set up a wellness plan after our first initial consult. This can be monthly, a 3-month prepay or a 6-month prepay and what will be included are massage sessions, a coaching session (for one’s mental and spiritual health), an herbalist consults and discounts for my herbal products. Now each plan will be made specific for each individual client’s needs! This is only what I would offer; I am also hoping to include, acupuncture, yoga therapy, other massage therapists with different styles, naturpathic doctors, ayurvedic practitioners, nutritionist / dietitian, etc. Once I find a property, I am also hoping to host classes for people who are looking to either make their own products, learn how to cook healthy / eat a specific diet, massage couple classes, yoga classes, etc. The whole goal is to create a community that helps one another grow and expand to become the best version of themselves wholistically.

Again, this is my future plan, at the moment I am looking to expand my own Wholistic Wellness Coaching and create wellness plans for people who are looking to really take care of their bodies. I mean, we only get one life (as far as we know), shouldn’t we try and take care of ourselves before focusing on anything else?

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me and why? I would say kindness and honesty. I feel as if I’ve had a lot of different versions of myself throughout life. I was the bully at one point, then I was being bullied. I was the bad influence, now I try and be as good of an influence as I possibly can. I’m young. I’m only 29 and I am still learning; however, the one thing I have always tried to do, ever since I was 16 years old after being picked on and bullied, is be kind to the underdog and to everyone in general. I’m not saying don’t have boundaries, but really we truly don’t know what anyone has been through and sometimes one kind comment or word to the right person could be exactly what they need at that given time. Anyone and everyone can change, so don’t judge people for their past.
