Today we’d like to introduce you to Evana Henri.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The 2020 pandemic has had a negative impact on many small businesses. For my husband John and I, however, it actually resulted in the birth of our business Darzee Scrubs. We had the idea of creating a more hygienic and environmentally friendly scrubber for several years. During the pandemic, we had more time to experiment with various prototypes and eventually developed the Aspen Exfoliator, our wellness body scrubber.

After John started a new job last year, I have continued with the business with his support.

I have been working with several retail partners to introduce the Aspen Exfoliator to the public. They include Natural Grocers, as well as small local shops. I also continue to explore additional partnership opportunities and develop new products like the Turmeric-Infused Aspen Exfoliator.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The business of creating a novel physical product and successfully marketing it was both exciting and scary. Neither my husband John nor I had any experience with manufacturing, retail, or marketing.

On the other hand, John has years of experience as a research scientist. He has developed many innovative products in diverse fields ranging from medicine to clean energy. As for me, a licensed health psychologist, I have always wholeheartedly embraced cultivating mind-body wellness. I have also enjoyed sharing useful tools and resources with my patients and others.

Through Darzee Scrubs, I get to draw upon a growth mindset and share mind-body wellness with more people.

As you know, we’re big fans of Darzee Scrubs, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
“Darzee” means “tailor”. We use wild aspen sourced from Colorado’s national forests. We work with local, reputable suppliers who have permission from the government to harvest forest product. They adhere to U.S. Forestry guidelines created specifically to minimize the possibility of wildfires in the forest and mountain regions of Colorado. It is part of an overall forestry plan to revitalize the aspen forest.

Most synthetic and plant-based body scrubbers are made and shipped from overseas. Darzee Scrubs Aspen Exfoliators are produced locally, further reducing their carbon footprint.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Be courageous and embrace my path even if it does not make sense or looks different from other people’s path.
