Inspiring Conversations with Goddex Elektra of Boundless Awakenings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Goddex Elektra.

Hi Goddex, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My second year of graduate school, I was in a horrible accident. I got hit by a car on the side of the highway while a kind stranger and I were changing my flat tire. I was studying Mental Health Counseling at Naropa University at the time, and I ended up needing to take a year off to recover. By the time I dragged myself across the finish line of graduation two and a half years later, I was so tired and burnt out that I couldn’t imagine working as a therapist. Over the course of some time, some travels, and some trainings, I decided to pursue Sex and Relationship Coaching. With coaching, I felt less burden of responsibility with clients, and I felt fueled after each session rather than drained. It was the type of work I needed; a way to help people while building myself back up at the same time. A few months in, I bought myself a flogger, and one thing lead to another that lead to another, and soon enough, I became a Therapeutic Dominatrix.

Now, I use my therapeutic background to dominate my clients into the best versions of themselves instead of just talking about it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! But also, sort of! In my first year or two, I felt pretty conflicted about doing something so edgy and “out there.” I thought a lot about going back to therapy because it was what I spent so much time studying and pursuing in my Master’s Degree. It felt like a much straighter path. There are so many resources to get a therapy practice going and so many trainings to keep developing your skills. It’s also such a well respected profession to talk to people about. What do you say to strangers at a dinner party when they ask you what you do? As a Dominatrix, I can’t just say what my job is without getting bombarded with questions and sometimes a lot of misunderstanding. Depending on the context, I can’t even always come out with it. But the path was smooth in the sense that each obstacle or doubt that came also came with an unfolding path of steps that kept leading me forward. My passion for my work stayed strong, and I am so grateful I stuck with it to get to where I am today!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Boundless Awakenings?
As a Somatic Coach and a Therapeutic Dominatrix, I help people work through shame around their desires. I see people online and in person. The online sessions are either for Sexuality Coaching or Dominatrix Life Coaching, and the in-person sessions are for Therapeutic Domination. I work with people through a multitude of different explorations. Some people are wanting to explore their kinky sides for the first time, some are wanting to explore their newfound sexual orientations or understand their lifelong fetishes. Some are wanting to gain more confidence, self- acceptance, or self- love. I help people make meaning out of their true feelings, rather than what society has conditioned them to think. My favorite exploration is helping clients utilize their kinks to help them grow in a different area of life. Some examples of this are a client utilizing our kink “scenes” to discover more presence in his overall life and create a healthier work/life balance. Another client utilized Dominatrix Life Coaching to come up with proper punishments and rewards to help him eat healthier, exercise more, and quit smoking.

Apart from working with clients, I lead local workshops in Boulder on therapeutic kink themes. Some examples have been “Intro to Therapeutic Domination” and “Intro to Therapeutic Impact Play.”

What sets me apart from others in this field is my background in Mental Health Counseling because I am so oriented towards healing and growth. BDSM is so psychological, so it’s helpful to have trauma training and have my mind geared in this direction. I love working at the intersection of kink and neuropsychology to help people retrain their negative beliefs about themselves and have more confidence in their authentic selves.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
That’s a hard question! I’ll say doing dance recitals as a kid all the way through high school was a huge positive in my life!
