Inspiring Conversations with Jacob Tegtman of Third Loft Marketing and Website Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Tegtman

Hi Jacob, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My career started when after college I was offered a job doing sales for a water, mold, and fire damage restoration company. My major had been in English, but I was interested in business during my later college years. Applying myself, I found a good measure of success in the industry, and helped grow that office substantially. However, the company later came upon a slow year, and they put me on a part-time basis. During that time, I grew more clients on the side, and eventually Third Loft Marketing and Website Design was born. We’re now in year 7, and growing faster than ever.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business for the first 5-years or so was rarely a smooth road. I wasted a lot of time, money, and had several serious times when I thought about closing down the business. It always seemed like when those tough times would come though, we’d rally and new business would come in. Looking back, I probably didn’t need to worry as much as I did. However, some of that anxiety certainly motivated me to work harder, which probably helped ensure Third Loft’s survival. Only now, that we’re moving well past financial ups-and-downs of those first several years does it seem like struggles are coming as we’re scaling. So, there’s a new set of challenges for each season, I think.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Third Loft Marketing and Website Design specializes in websites and SEO. What sets us apart from our competitors is that we simply don’t stop until our clients get the results they want. We’ve found that most small business owners have been burned by numerous marketing companies who over-promised and under-delivered. We strive to deliver on what we promise. And that’s the only thing we accept from our team.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m not 100% sure on this one. I think everyone has things about them that others don’t know about. Maybe it’s that my background wasn’t originally in marketing. I never studied marketing in college, for example. Instead, I got my English degree, and started in sales during college, part-time. Over the years, I’ve taken courses, studied under masters in the sales and marketing world, and pushed myself. And along with that, we have some amazing partners who amplify our services. But I think with how far we’ve come, people may think I was into marketing from the time I was kid or something.
