Inspiring Conversations with Josh Gray of The Drywall Artist LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Gray.

Hi Josh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Up until 2004 I was a cod fisherman in Alaska working as a deckhand on commercial long liners. My firstborn was on the way and I wanted to find a new line of work that would keep me at home. I started doing some temp construction work and landed a job as a laborer on an Air Force Base in Aurora. I learned many skills there including framing, drywall finishing and painting. I even learned how to form and finish concrete! I eventually moved on to work at another popular kitchen & bath remodel company in Englewood. It was there that I honed my Texture matching skills while running the Drywall department. Many of my customers said I was an artist, hence the name of my company, The Drywall Artist LLC! After a few years of that, I felt it was time to start my own business at 40 years old. That was eight years ago and we haven’t missed a beat since!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, the biggest struggle was trying to scale my business. I wanted to take on anything and everything but getting quality help and dependable subcontractors proved to be difficult. Most of my stress came from trying to line everybody up and make sure things went smoothly!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are one of the only Drywall contractors in Northern Colorado that are certified applicators of Fresco Harmony wall color treatments! I’ve been applying color treatments to walls and ceilings for over five years now! We’ve marketed to general contractors and interior designers all over the city!

We specialize in drywall repairs in residential remodels for bathrooms and kitchens. Much of our work is repairing water damage from roof and plumbing leaks. We remove popcorn Texture as well!

What sets us apart most is our attention to detail. While working at my last job, I was attentive to the customers complaints and criticism of how their jobs were going. I learned what NOT to do there once I set out to start my own company. NO WHITE FOOTPRINTS ALL OVER YOUR DRIVEWAY! NO MUD DRIPPING ONTO YOUR FINISHED KITCHEN FLOORS! NO DUST ALL OVER THE HOUSE WHEN WE LEAVE! WE ARRIVE ON TIME AND WE FINISH ON SCHEDULE!
