Inspiring Conversations with Joshua Magee of Restorative Therapies Bodywork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Magee.

Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I worked in fine dining for years. After my son was born, I realized that we would soon be on opposite schedules. I also knew that I had not much left to grow in that industry. I quit my long term job at the time and did some soul searching. on an intuitive hunch I went to massage school. After graduation I had no idea how my career would turn out. I started my own business at the time and became employed by a small massage business. My employer at the time would send me to a chiropractor’s office once or twice a month to appeal to new clients. In about 6 months my schedule was full, however I was still growing my own private practice. We ended up moving to a new office and I received the opportunity to work my own business and keep the clients I had earned. From then on, I was fully self employed and loving it. Over the years I developed my skillset studying with advanced practitioners and doctors. I would end up building a very busy medical massage practice that keeps my busy to this day. Its very fulfilling to have the opportunity to help people who have been injured return to embracing their own lives again.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Challenges. It took years to build an income that would support my family.

I was under a lot of pressure to help people to recover with a very full schedule.

I wasn’t able to be at home with my wife and son as much as I had wanted and was too tired when I arrived.

Marital problems off and on.

Discovering that my persona had been adapted from an early age to a vending machine and trash can, constantly giving except to myself, and absorbing everyones negativity and projections which eventually bankrupted my psychology. After that my business took a dive and is now rebuilding.

We’ve been impressed with Restorative Therapies Bodywork , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a medical and sports massage therapist. I help people from all ages and all walks of life to regain their lives from injuries of all kinds.

What sets me apart is the ability to hone in on a physical/ and accompanied psychological issue and restore balance in the body in the affected meridians, muscles, joints, eliminating pain and restoring range of motion. I’ll include the ability to “have a conversation with” the human body in order to understand how the body is confused and injured and follow the body’s wisdom to a return to the innate state of balance.

Allowing your readers to know there’s a service to help them restore their bodies and minds from life’s unexpected adventures. And even if they have no injuries, allow them to know there’s a place to go where they can still enjoy a balanced body. Because of repetitive movement, lifestyle, career, and generational patterns, just about anyone can benefit. Thats what I’m the most proud of, there’s never been a person I couldn’t help over 12 years of owning my clinic.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yes it was a risk to go to school for massage because I went full time and didn’t work to earn income at that time.

It was a risk to push into entrepreneurship and keep working until it supported me.

It was a risk at times working on people who are injured, potentially injuring them further via treatment, yet somehow that never happened.

There was a shooting at my office one summer and I risked my life to go out and do cpr on someone until the ambulance and police arrived, not knowing where the shooter was.

It was a risk to have a psychological upheaval in the midst of supporting a family and take time for myself to heal.

My whole life it feels has been risky. Lol
