Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Davis.
Hi Julia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my photography journey over fifteen years ago, initially documenting my own life and family. What started as a creative outlet quickly grew into a deeper calling as I realized how powerful photographs can be in shaping identity, connection, and belonging.
Over the years, I’ve photographed countless families and witnessed how quickly seasons change, and how meaningful it is to have tangible reminders of those moments. Motherhood, and raising four boys alongside building a business, has greatly influenced my approach. It taught me to value presence over perfection and to focus on capturing what feels real and enduring.
Today, my work has evolved beyond photography sessions alone. I’m increasingly focused on helping families create intentional systems for preserving and revisiting their memories in meaningful ways. It feels like a natural next chapter—one rooted in storytelling, legacy, and living fully in the moments we want to remember.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most creative paths, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship required constant recalibration, especially while raising four boys and navigating evolving demands of both family and business.
There were seasons of burnout, self-doubt, and pressure to keep up with what I was comparing myself to online all the time. But with time, those challenges became clarifying. They pushed me to slow down, refine my priorities, and build a career that felt sustainable and aligned with my values.
We’ve been impressed with Julia Davis Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My work centers on family photography and storytelling, with a focus on capturing honest connection rather than posed perfection. I’m known for a natural, timeless style that reflects real life. I look for moments that feel familiar, meaningful, and deeply personal.
What sets my work apart is the emphasis on intention. Beyond photographing families, I help them think differently about their memories… how they’re captured, curated, and revisited over time. I believe photographs are most powerful when they’re lived with, not left behind on a hard drive.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of creating something that feels calm, thoughtful, and human in an often fast-paced, trend-driven industry. My goal is to offer families an experience that feels grounding and lasting, and to help them build a visual legacy that reflects who they truly are.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ve learned that the most meaningful mentorship often develops naturally. Paying attention to whose work and values resonate with you, reaching out with genuine curiosity, and allowing relationships to unfold over time has been far more impactful than formal networking for me. Instagram has connected me to photographers all around the country and beyond.
I love connecting with and supporting other creatives. Sharing ideas, showing interest, and showing up consistently has created some great friendships and mentorship opportunities!
