Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianne Curtis NoCo Doula Collective.
Hi Julianne Curtis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It was a no-brainer for us to join forces when we realized that merging our two doula businesses would allow us to serve families more holistically — not just during birth, but from conception through the fourth trimester and beyond. After each running our own doula practices for about a decade and covering births for one another when needed, we officially launched the NoCo Doula Collective in the spring of 2024.
Our vision was simple: build a supportive, collaborative home for both the families we serve and the doulas we work alongside. We wanted to create a space where parents could find compassionate, evidence-based support at every step of their journey — whether welcoming their first baby, navigating loss, or learning how to feed their newborn at 2 a.m. And we wanted doulas in our community to feel like they had a village too: a team that mentors, celebrates, and backs each other up.
Between the two of us, we bring nearly two decades of doula work and a whole lot of life experience. Julianne is a grandma of four, a longtime birth worker, CAPPA Labor Doula Trainer, and former 911 call taker and victim advocate. Katie is a mom of three, a Certified Hypnobabies Instructor, and has a background in social work. Together, we’re passionate about holding space for all families — no matter their birth plan, family makeup, or life circumstances.
We’re excited to keep growing the Collective and to continue serving Northern Colorado families with heart, humor, and a whole lot of teamwork.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not always smooth — but so worth it. Like most small business owners and birth workers, we’ve had our share of challenges. One of the biggest has been navigating the unpredictability of birth work while also running a business and caring for our own families. Birth rarely happens during business hours, and balancing on-call life with parenthood, marriages, and personal health is something we are constantly working on.
We’ve been impressed with NoCo Doula Collective , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
NoCo Doula Collective is a full-service doula agency supporting Northern Colorado families from pregnancy through postpartum. We offer birth and postpartum doula care, lactation support, bereavement services, education, and photography — all rooted in compassionate, evidence-based care.
What sets us apart is our team approach: when you hire one of us, you get the expertise and heart of our whole team behind you. We offer sliding scale rates, accept HSA/FSA/Carrot payments, and always provide bereavement support at no charge.
We’re most proud of the safe, judgment-free space we create for every family — whether they’re celebrating, grieving, or somewhere in between. Our heart is community care, and we’re honored to walk alongside families in one of life’s most tender seasons.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Julianne and Katie both grew up as natural helpers — the kind of people who were always comforting friends, supporting family, and finding themselves in caretaker roles long before they officially became doulas.
