Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Manilow.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I spent over a decade as a docent at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago which laid the foundation for me of the contemporary art world. I also had the privilege of learning about contemporary artists from some of the best curators around. I realized that there was a gap between artists and interested art buyers.
My goal was to create a bridge between incredibly talented artists and potential collectors. I firmly believe that procuring art should not feel overwhelming or pretentious. It should feel invigorating, and inspiring and bring along a true sense of magic. I try to do that with LKM Art Consulting.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacles are finding new clients and informing potential clients about art consulting in general. This industry is not very well known and can appear very obscure. So part of what I am doing is explaining exactly what an art consultant does and how using my services can benefit them, and their budget and streamline their process. People are accustomed to interior designers, not art consultants. So I guess it is always an educational process first.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about LKM Art Consulting?
LKM Art Consulting is a Chicago-based art consulting company that works with clients to educate, advise, and purchase contemporary art. I specialize in sourcing original, contemporary art from local, national, and international artists in order to present the most unique artworks available. Sourcing is my sweet spot as I travel around the world, attend International art fairs, and conduct artist studio visits in order to stay on top of the ever-changing contemporary art world.
My process is very simple, organic, and non-pretentious. I am able to efficiently work with diverse clients and help them identify their artistic interests by showing them a diverse array of art. I utilize technology to create visual renderings of artwork on client walls to give each client a better feeling of what art would look like within a space prior to purchasing.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
LKM Art Consulting is moving into curating exhibits, leading artist panel discussions, and potentially creating forums for discussion of topical issues in our world through the lens of art.
