Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Burnett, MS CNTP MNT.
Hi Nikki, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My history has been the path that has led me to the place I am today. I realize this is not a unique statement as that’s how it goes for most people…but as much as I know we are supposed to live in the present, looking back and seeing that I have been guided this entire time helps me see the future with awe – and the understanding that I will always be guided, as long as I continue to pray, focus, and listen.
In short, animals have always been my first love. It was in undergrad that I discovered reproductive physiology and with all the science in the world – began to see the creation of other beings as the miracle it truly is. We are so blessed to be able to experience miracles every single day – sometimes we just need to take a step back and look.
After grad school, I started making my way and joined a small supplement company. Beyond my own reading and learning, this was my kickstart into natural health.
Over the years, I moved on to pharmaceuticals, surgical devices, medical equipment, and medical business development. Throughout this journey, nutrition was always there as I continued to research, learn, and share what I knew with friends and family. My efforts then moved to dogs – back to my roots. I began to dig deep into dog nutrition discovering how deadly hard food is for our furry family members.
The time came for me to listen to my heart – I knew I was being guided so I went back to school for nutrition.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Reflecting back on my life journey to discovering my passion and purpose allows me to recognize the gifts I received along the way.
There was a time when I was in chronic pain and had no idea what was happening. I had never experienced anxiety before, but with no understanding of what was happening, I had a significant amount of fear and frustration. Then, one day, I snapped. I thought to myself: “There must be an answer! Someone must have an answer!”
So, I drew a line in the sand and started looking for support. I knew that I could only take myself so far, and I wasn’t willing to go another moment with this pain and frustration. I was tired of merely existing and surviving. I was willing to do whatever it took to get answers, even as scary as it was. I started digging for the truth. I researched and experienced many modalities in healing. I learned to advocate for myself.
As difficult as it was, I’m grateful for the experience. My digging not only led me to understand the cause of the pain, but I found more answers that I didn’t know I needed – the pain was a symptom of a bigger problem.
I was stressed, frustrated with my work, and I felt like I was floundering with no real purpose. Although I didn’t know what my purpose was, something deep inside me knew that I was created to live largely and thrive in a life I loved.
I was being led and I knew I had a mission. Functional nutrition was my path and the struggles from the past have guided my work as a “Health Detective”. I don’t want anyone to have to struggle with not having answers and continue to live in pain, struggle, and mere existence. I want them to enjoy amazing health so they can live out their incredible life, giving all they are meant to give to this world.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Taste Life Nutrition?
Understanding food and epigenetics has been a guiding force in my practice and my direction.
Food is a language – it communicates with cells and DNA. Healthy food that can be broken down properly by the body is utilized and the body knows what to do.
Unhealthy, toxic food sends an unclear line of communication to cells and DNA creating confusion.
This sends out red flags initiating a cell danger response which can begin the process of inflammation leading to symptoms (including fertility struggles) leading to dis-ease – which of course can create or exacerbate fertility struggles.
Epigenetics and how genes are expressed. What controls our epigenome? Our lifestyle!
Food, movement, stress, sleep, trauma, toxins – all can control how our genes are expressed. What this means is we each have an amazing amount of control over our genetic destiny!! My time as a functional nutritionist has led me in beautifully unexpected directions. Historically, most of my practice has been working with people with GI dysfunction and autoimmune conditions. But I saw a pattern – many of the women wanted to find balance and eliminate symptoms because they knew they wanted to start or grow their family.
My own history, and my experience with clients, this has led me to create SoulFull Conception: PurposeFull Living for a Healthy Body, a Healthy Pregnancy, and a Healthy Baby. Women who made five or more lifestyle changes reduced their infertility risk by a whopping 80%!
This Preconception Planning program is a transformative program designed to help women and their spouses achieve optimal health so that when it’s time to try for a family, they are not only prepared but have a plan of action for the health of the couple and their baby.
SoulFull Conception is a comprehensive guide to natural fertility—building a healthy, sustainable foundation that will dramatically increase the chances of conception through individualized recommendations and expert guidance.
The most amazing thing about ensuring your health is the most optimal today, is you have the ability to impact the health of SEVEN generations to come! Think about that for a while!!
