Inspiring Conversations with Rachelle Mapes of Black Sheep Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle Mapes

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After my business partner stepped down, I took the reins and seized the opportunity to drive the business forward. Owning and growing a business has always been a passion of mine, and by implementing several strategic changes, I was able to foster significant growth. One of the most rewarding aspects has been working closely with the motorcycle community, which has added a unique and fulfilling dimension to the business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While the road to success hasn’t always been smooth, each challenge has been an opportunity to learn and grow. One of the biggest hurdles was adjusting to the shift in leadership after my partner stepped down. Taking on the full responsibility required a lot of adaptation—both in terms of decision-making and managing the operational load. Additionally, navigating the unique dynamics of the motorcycle community brought its own set of challenges, from understanding the specific needs of our customers to building trust and establishing credibility within such a tight-knit group. However, these struggles have only strengthened the business, and with every setback came valuable insights that have shaped our success today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My motorcycle apparel business is evolving to bring my passion and services directly to the biker community. I am now hitting the road and participating in more vendor events, traveling with my sewing machine to offer on-the-spot patch sewing. This mobility allows me to connect with riders at rallies, events, and gatherings, making my services more accessible and engaging.

I specialize in high-quality motorcycle apparel and custom patch sewing, providing bikers with a way to express their identities and affiliations in a personal and meaningful way.

I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built and will continue to foster by being on the ground and in the heart of the action. I want the readers to know that I am committed to making every rider feel seen and heard, with apparel and services that celebrate the spirit of the open road.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the motorcycle apparel industry embracing more tech advancements, like smart safety features, while staying true to the classic biker culture. Customization will only grow in demand, with riders wanting gear that reflects their unique stories.

As a single woman-owned business, I’m proud to be part of this evolving landscape, bringing personalization and connection right to the heart of the community through mobile, event-based services.
