Inspiring Conversations with Saraya Sampson of Reclaim Ink

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saraya Sampson

Hi Saraya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Reclaim Ink was born from both personal and professional experiences that deeply shaped my journey. I’ve been a registered nurse since 2011 and have spent years caring for others in their most vulnerable moments. In 2023, I faced my own battle with breast cancer. It was an incredibly challenging time, but it gave me a profound understanding of resilience and the importance of feeling whole again after such a life-changing experience.

During my recovery, I learned about 3D areola tattooing and its transformative impact on breast cancer survivors. It combined artistry and healing in a way that resonated with my journey and my passion for helping others. I knew this was the next step for me.

With that vision, I founded Reclaim Ink—a 3D areola tattoo studio dedicated to empowering breast cancer survivors. My mission is to provide a space for restoration, where survivors can reclaim their confidence and feel whole again. It’s been an incredible journey, blending my nursing background, personal experience, and commitment to supporting others. Today, I’m proud to help survivors feel seen, celebrated, and strong as they embrace life after cancer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to founding Reclaim Ink has been anything but smooth, but it’s those challenges that have made the journey so meaningful. As a breast cancer survivor, I faced the physical and emotional toll of treatment, surgery, and recovery. That experience alone was life-altering and gave me a deeper perspective on resilience.

Starting Reclaim Ink was also a leap into the unknown. While my background as a registered nurse gave me a strong foundation, transitioning into the world of 3D areola tattooing required learning a new skill set and navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship. Balancing my role as a nurse manager with building a business from the ground up was no small task. There were moments of doubt, financial strain, and the fear of stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Despite these obstacles, every challenge has reaffirmed my passion and commitment to this work. Seeing the impact Reclaim Ink has on survivors makes every hurdle worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

How do you think about luck?
Luck, both good and bad, has played a significant role in shaping my life and my journey with Reclaim Ink. Being diagnosed with breast cancer was, without question, bad luck. It was a moment that turned my world upside down and forced me to confront my own vulnerability. But in hindsight, it also led me to discover a purpose I might not have found otherwise.

In the midst of that challenge, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have supportive family, friends, and colleagues who encouraged me every step of the way. Their unwavering belief in me has been a form of good luck I’m endlessly grateful for.

Starting Reclaim Ink also came with moments of serendipity. From discovering the world of 3D areola tattooing to meeting people who helped guide me in my training and business journey, there’s been a series of fortunate connections that have helped bring my vision to life.

I believe luck, whether good or bad, is only part of the equation. What matters most is how we respond to it. For me, those moments of bad luck have fueled my resilience, and the good luck has reinforced my commitment to using my experiences to make a difference.
