Inspiring Conversations with Shahrina Ankhi-Krol of Ankhi-Krol Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shahrina Ankhi-Krol.

Hi Shahrina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my law firm at the age of twenty-seven. While I always wanted to have my own law practice, I did not imagine starting at such a young age. After graduating from law school, I was employed at a law firm with a very toxic work environment. It was mentally and emotionally exhausting. Eventually, I realized that I had enough legal knowledge and experience in the industry to start my own practice as I worked in law firms since I was a teenager. With that realization, I quit my job as an associate attorney and became the owner of Ankhi-Krol Law.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of my law firm. I am proud to say that I have helped hundreds of entrepreneurs and small business owners in the following areas of law: business, contract, trademark, and copyright. I have achieved my goal of providing the most sought-after legal services for small business owners under one roof.

All of this started with faith and trust in my strengths and abilities. I started from nothing and built my practice to work with a nationwide clientele.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any other small business owner, I, too have experienced (and continue to experience) bumps along the road. My biggest struggle has always been self-doubt, even when there is no reason for doubting myself. However, over the years, I have learned to manage such limiting thoughts to allow myself to grow.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My firm, Ankhi-Krol Law, is a boutique law firm located in New York City that works exclusively with start-ups and small businesses. My areas of practice are: Business, Contract, Trademark, and Copyright.

Although I work with all types of businesses, I have a niche practice in the following industries: fashion, beauty, creative, and pet. I carved out those niche practices because I personally enjoy fashion, beauty, creativity, and pets. So, when I work with businesses in those industries, it doesn’t feel like work.

I am proud to be known for my ethics, knowledge, and personability. I do not believe in the old-school law firm ideology of being needlessly serious, unapproachable, and ominous. I treat my clients like teammates and view their successes as my own. As a result, I have been fortunate to work with clients from all over the country (and some from overseas), many of whom I have never met in person.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
COVID19 has taught all of something. For me, the biggest lesson has been: Time waits for no one, not even a pandemic. That is why versatility and adaptability is crucial not only in business but in life.
