Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Kleewein.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been an editor, and I have always loved writing. When I was 11, I had a poem published, which really solidified what I wanted to do when I grew up. Of course, life doesn’t always work out exactly as we plan!
When I was 17 and graduating high school, I found out I was pregnant. Well, that was my change of plans, and I only wanted to ensure my son had the best life possible. As he recently graduated, I couldn’t be prouder of my decision.
My husband and I have been married for nearly 18 years, and we have strived to create a loving and caring environment to raise our (now two) children. My husband joined the Army shortly after we married, and I stayed home with our son. However, as a strong woman, I knew I couldn’t only be a stay-at-home mom, so I sought work (in the field I thought I wanted to go into then) as a security officer—law enforcement was my passion. After learning business strategies through different forums (I was a dog groomer and co-owner of a shop for a little while), I was hired at a medical device company working overnight security (this was after my husband was back, and we worked opposite shifts to ensure one of us was with our son). As you might suspect, sometimes landing where we’re supposed to be takes a while. I advanced in the company with the help and loyalty of some of the best people I will ever know.
To make a very 14-year long story short, I was elated to find out that the company I worked for not only wanted to harness my passion but also wanted to advance it with education! I went to school, got my degree, and started proofreading. As I advanced and my knowledge exceeded all my expectations, I couldn’t believe how happy I was to be doing exactly what I was meant to do, and I had found my place.
Naturally, I felt compelled to continue that journey after being laid off. So, I started Stephanie Kleewein Communications—and I can’t even begin to say how grateful, humbled, and elated I am to be working with all the companies I am working with. I know that, yes, it takes talent and hard work to advance and become a reliable professional, but I just have to put out there that I am so incredibly grateful to those who reach out to me and help enhance my skills by trusting in that ability!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, there are obstacles and challenges; however, perspective is everything. Without challenges or obstacles, we have no way of learning. I consider them lessons.
My challenges/obstacles have ranged from finding my way, then having that “way” be severed (as so many people have gone through and are going through) being laid off. We take our “lessons” and transform them into something more powerful… more meaningful. I have had the pleasure of working with companies that truly improve and change lives. If it weren’t for the initial challenge/obstacle of finding where I belong, then the other “lessons” wouldn’t have presented, and I wouldn’t have had the chance to make my mark on my little corner of the world.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others
Stephanie Kleewein Communications, LLC specializes in editing. I work with and have worked with medical companies for over 15 years. I love everything communications, from creating editorial style guides to developing posts for social media to closed captioning/transcription to proofreading. As I said, I’m so grateful to be someone who truly gets to do what I LOVE for a living. I have had the privilege to work with some amazing people.
What matters most to you?
My family – my parents, my siblings, my husband, my kiddos. My husband once said you have two balls that you juggle constantly: one is glass, one is rubber. The glass ball represents your family and friends – if it falls, it breaks. The rubber ball is your career – if it falls, it can bounce back if you’re willing to catch it. That being said, I don’t take anything for granted, so every aspect of my life means something to me. Good and bad.
