Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Archuleta
Tanya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Tanya Archuleta, an Aesthetic Nurse Injector and proud Co-Owner of Skintonomy Medical Spa in Denver, Colorado. Above all, I am a mother and stepmother to two extraordinary daughters who inspire me every day to be a relentless dreamer, a fierce achiever, and a role model worth looking up to. They are my driving force, pushing me to work tirelessly, embrace challenges, and leave an indelible mark on this world.
Growing up in a small town, there was immense pressure to follow the traditional path of going to college right after high school. But for me, it didn’t feel right—I had no idea who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do. I tried college for a semester, but it didn’t click. When I told my parents I wasn’t going back, I felt the weight of expectations again, unsure of my next move.
That’s when I decided to try cosmetology school at Trinidad State Junior College. It was the first time I felt like I belonged somewhere. I finished the program, started my first salon job in Alamosa, Colorado, and for a moment, I thought I had found my path. But deep down, I craved something more. I moved to Boulder, Colorado, hoping for clarity. That’s where I found an aesthetics program and earned an Associate’s Degree in 2005. During my capstone, I interned at a plastic surgeon’s office, and a lightbulb went off—the realization that I wanted to pursue medical aesthetics settled in.
Life, however, doesn’t always follow a straight path. I spent the next few years working for MAC Cosmetics, diving into the art of makeup. I didn’t know much when I started, but I was fortunate to learn from an incredible mentor. She taught me the power of detail: contouring, highlighting, and the beauty of color theory. Those lessons weren’t just about makeup—they were about understanding faces, the nuances of individuality, and the confidence that comes with self-expression.
Eventually, I moved back to Alamosa, unsure of what came next. Using my skills as a hairdresser and makeup artist, I dipped my toes into entrepreneurship. But yet again, I felt the pull toward something greater. That’s when I made the life-changing decision to pursue a Bachelor of Nursing degree at Adams State University. Starting over wasn’t easy—juggling general education courses while raising my step-daughter Stephanie—but this time, I had purpose. I knew exactly who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do.
Becoming a Registered Nurse was an immense milestone I never imagined reaching back in 2002. After passing the NCLEX, I followed my dream into medical aesthetics. I invested in advanced training at Jack Zamora Plastic Surgery, focusing on neuromodulators and dermal fillers. I’ll never forget the first time I held a syringe; it felt natural, like an extension of the skills I’d honed for years in makeup artistry. I wasn’t just injecting—I was helping people see the best versions of themselves.
The journey was far from easy, but every challenge became a stepping stone. I immersed myself in extensive trainings, cadaver courses, and workshops, determined to learn from the best in the industry. During this time, my mother’s unwavering support made it possible as she cared for my newborn daughter, Ayla, who is now seven, so I could fully dedicate myself to pursuing my dreams. In this field, there’s no formal school; success is built on relentless self-investment and an unwillingness to settle. I continually stepped out of my comfort zone, discovering the true essence of resilience: when one door closes, another always opens.
That philosophy came to life in March 2021 with the birth of Skintonomy Medical Spa. What began as a modest, once-a-month operation in Alamosa quickly evolved into something far greater. With my sister, Courtney, as Co-Owner and my stepdaughter, Stephanie, as Marketing Director, we brought Skintonomy to Denver, Colorado. Together, we’ve built a dynamic team and a space that truly embodies the essence of “Aesthetic Medicine Meets Artistic Skill.” This isn’t just a tagline—it’s the essence of everything we’ve worked to achieve.
At Skintonomy, we believe in the uniqueness of every face, which is why we tailor treatments to each individual. From dermal fillers to cutting-edge lasers, our goal is to achieve optimal facial balance and skin health. Every patient we serve is a reminder of why I started this journey: to help people feel confident in their own skin.
Reflecting on the past, the girl who left college unsure of her future could have never envisioned this life. Every twist and turn led me to this point, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t help but laugh at this question because the road to today has been anything but smooth. It’s been rocky, windy, and steep. From the years I took finding my path between high school graduation and nursing school to the struggle of passing the NCLEX – nursing state boards, every step tested me. Becoming a mother brought a whole new layer of challenges, from navigating motherhood to summoning the courage to set my exam date. I spent countless hours studying while my mom, my rock, helped care for my daughter.
But the story doesn’t stop there. The road of entrepreneurship has been equally humbling and defeating at times. Building something from nothing—a dream, an idea, into a reality—felt like climbing a mountain with no peak in sight. There were sleepless nights, overwhelming setbacks, many tears, and moments when it felt like giving up might be easier. Every day comes with its own unique challenges and navigating them is a journey I continue to grow through, constantly pushing myself to build and sustain a thriving business.
The setbacks—more than I can count—weren’t roadblocks; they were lessons that shaped me. They taught me how to grow, how to fight, and ultimately how to build Skintonomy Medical Spa into what it is today. Every obstacle has molded my identity: a mother, a business owner, a Nurse Injector, and a woman who battled for her dreams. I wouldn’t trade the tears, struggles, triumphs, setbacks, or hard work for anything. They’ve shown me one of life’s greatest truths: mindset is everything. On the hardest days, I remind myself of the nights I prayed to be exactly where I am now—and that keeps me moving forward.
