Inspiring Conversations with Tanya McCrea, LCSW, CTPP-II of Growing in Him Christian Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya McCrea, LCSW, CTPP-II.

Hi Tanya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to help people heal from their past trauma, but wasn’t sure how. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Denver in 2005. I became a Licensed Social Worker in 2011 and at the time was working in a church as an administrative assistant. I felt led by God to transition into working as a therapist in 2014. I began counseling through the church as well as in another clinic as I obtained my clinical hours. In 2019, the Pastor of my church asked if I would be interested in partnering with the church and open a counseling center. After a year of prep work and prayers and completing my clinical hours, I opened Growing in Him Christian Counseling Center in Aug. 2020. My desire has been to offer Biblically Centered, Christian and Evidenced Based Trauma Therapy. I have been blessed to walk along side many children, teens and adults and watch them heal from their trauma. I see God working in each session and I am humbled to be a part of the process! I hired a colleague in 2023 who is currently working towards her LPC. Together, we help people manage anxiety and depression as they learn to process difficult events in their life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have put my complete trust in the Lord who has been with me every step of the way. He has provided me with the clients I needed to stay in business and has brought me the people I can help. All adventures come with difficulties. The biggest challenge was learning how to run a business and maintain a healthy schedule. Over the years, I have learned how to take care of myself so I can better take care of my clients and maintain a healthy work/family life balance.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Growing in Him is a faith based counseling center. Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the foundation for all that we do. We are also licensed therapists and maintain a high level of training. Our mission is to bring professional care, empathy, and healing to children, teens, and adults. We use the love of Jesus and a Christian therapeutic approach to offer support for life’s greatest challenges. We strive to offer a safe place to process through trauma and utilize evidenced based practices as well as the hope of the Holy Spirit to help our clients heal. We are trauma specialists, working with children, teens and adults. We are goal oriented and client centered which allows our clients to move forward in their healing and come to find joy and happiness in their lives.

We realize how difficult life can be. We offer hope through a non-judgmental space and we are willing to say the hard things in order to bring about true healing. We will not simply tell you what you want to hear, but through compassionate love and kindness, we will encourage growth and change to help you heal and move forward.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to follow God where ever He leads me. As we continue to grow, we will look at hiring additional therapists, but mostly we want to be open to helping where we are needed and go where we are led.
