Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Rechtenbaugh.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Sue and I are sisters and both are Nurse Practitioners in the long-term care arena. We were seeing how COVID was affecting our elders. We were dealing with a lot of death and feeling helpless in our jobs. We decided we wanted to do something different, something where we felt we were impacting more lives. It probably wasn’t the best time post-COVID, but we decided to get into aesthetics.
We started by subletting a space from a stylist on the weekends at a Phenix salon and slowly built our clientele. It was refreshing to be able to help clients feel better about themselves and instill confidence and self-esteem. The stylist we were with decided to move to Image Studios Oct. ’22. We were hesitant to move since we did have a small clientele base, but for financial purposes, we moved with her. We quickly found out that the space was too small for all 3 of us. The owner of Image Studios was amazing and we decided to shit or get off the pot.
Were we going to keep this as a hobby, or do this? We decided to get into our own space and it was the best decision. The other stylists in the studio were great and referred us to more clients. We added Semaglutide 1 year ago and our business took off. We are not only helping people feel and look better, but we are getting people off their blood pressure medications and helping them take their health back. While we are still full-time practicing Nurse Practitioners, our goal is to make this business are full-time business soon.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road at all. Sue and I are not businesswomen and we have found it hard to have the businesswoman mindset. However, the owner and other stylists have helped us out quite a bit. Stacy is so good at promoting us. We also both hate social media so that has been a big struggle.
But we follow a few Facebook owner groups and work with a social media company that helps us with posts. We are also going to start having a young post-college student help. We have also learned the hard way that sales reps will say anything to get you to buy their product. We have made some bad business decisions because of being so trusting.
As you know, we’re big fans of Beauty Oasis by Suterra. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a medical spa that specializes in age management. We do this with medical-grade skincare, neuromodulators, fillers, weight loss, IV nutritional therapy, hair restoration, hormone replacement therapy, skin tightening, photo facials, platelet-rich plasma, and more. We also specialize in weight loss with GLP1 medications.
We offer telehealth for those out of state have clients in over 12 states, and have over 150 clients being successful in the weight loss journey. We are known mostly for getting great results with neuromodulators (Botox) and weight loss management. What sets us apart is our caring about our results for our clients. We are very personal and give them the attention they want and deserve.
We are most proud of the results that we get from our procedures and that our clients are happy, satisfied clients. We offer free consultations and do not nickel and dime our clients. We are working on becoming more functional medicine providers. This is mostly done through hormone replacement therapy with pellets, creams, or bioidentical hormones.
So many times, we listen to stories of clients with depression, anxiety, fatigue, and lack of sex drive and their doctor/practitioner will put them on all these medications instead of finding what is the root cause for these symptoms. These are symptoms of something going on in the body, and throwing them on a pill to treat the symptoms is doing them a disservice by not finding out what is going on.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I am the youngest of 7 and Sue is the 2nd oldest, first girl. My favorite memories are all the family Christmas we had together.
We lived in a small town, and there was a neighbor who would always dress up as Santa and come to our house. I just remember the feeling of being together as a family. Sue is the glue to our family and keeps up with all of our sibling’s happenings.
