Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Taylor Rodriguez.
Hi Dr. Rodriguez, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My journey with chiropractic started when I was about 9 years old. At the time we were living in the central part of California and my mom, sister, and I were all struggling with the impact the air quality had on us. I had bronchitis for 9 months out of the year, and recently new to dance, and competitive dance at that, I was struggling to breath while I performed resulting in an onslaught of medications and breathing treatments just to get through a single routine. After exploring the allopathic medicine route to no avail, we proceeded to supplement with a more holistic approach and started seeing our first chiropractor. I don’t remember much about the experience now looking back, but what I do remember is how our chiropractor shared with us what true health and healing looked like, and encouraged us to move out of California if we wanted to welcome healing into our life. After a lot of deliberation as a family, we decided to move out of the state in hopes of gaining our health back. It turns out that was exactly the right move for us, and since that time we have explored deeper and deeper into the realm of holistic health and healing. Being so young and impressionable at the time, the philosophy of the potential for healing was really ingrained in my subconscious mind. I was 11 when I decided that I wanted to be a chiropractor, but being so into dance as well that was the avenue that carried me through high school and after graduation, I decided to move to LA (funnily enough) to pursue dance as a career. As all things are divinely timed, my career as a professional dancer was short-lived as I had a pretty extensive ankle injury that brought me back to where my family was currently residing in Texas to recover and start to tick off classes that would set me on track to completing the pre-requisites to enter into chiropractic school.
After completing nearly 2 years of online courses (before it was popular) I started at Parker University. From the first day of the program, I repeated “I’m moving to Colorado to open my practice” and after the ups and downs of the program, I did just that. A day after graduation, I packed up my car and drove here to live with my partner (who is also a chiropractor). Last year I opened my own practice, Soul Service Chiropractic, and feel so honored each and every day to witness that same healing that was instilled in me at such a young age and support people in the journey back to themselves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the point of this thing called life is to grow through challenges. Obviously, the span of twenty years carries a lot of ups and downs and twists and turns as my journey started when I was so young. To focus in on the past year since opening Soul Service, I think we can all imagine the implications of opening a business during a time of collective uncertainty. One of the aspects I really love about chiropractic is this found sense of centeredness not only physically, but spiritually that I turn to time and time again when things feel uneasy or challenges arise in my path. So, to answer the question, no I would not consider opening a business in this time a smooth road, but what I can express is gratitude to be able to sit here a year later with all the lessons learned.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a holistic chiropractor, which means I emphasize, support, and uncover healing on many realms including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual as it is my fundamental belief these are not mutually exclusive. I work in a way that celebrates each person’s unique journey that led them to finding my office and work individually to uncover the root cause of why they may be feeling and expressing in a certain way. I introduce adjustments that honor each individual’s unique physicality, which in turn provides the most constructive information for them to start to unwind patterns in their body. I believe healing to be a process experienced over time, and health to be a journey rather than a destination.
I hold true to the essence of chiropractic, in that the adjustment is the focal point of my practice, and feel very passionate about sharing the philosophy of this work.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is connection. At the basis of all dis-ease is truly dis-connection. Once we start to re-establish connection to our body, to ourselves, and to the greater whole, dissonance ceases to exist.
